Connecting to networks - continually

Postby myles123 » 19 Mar 2011 01:30

Hi i am a newbie.

When i first started with Sharezea a couple of weeks back, i found that the system instantly starting finf the songs/artists i was looking for. Now all of a sudden it just shows the message "Connecting to networks" and it never does.

What am i doing wrong?

Thanks.

Could you tell us what the connection test says for you? (It is available within the Help menu.)

Hi Old Death,

Did that - it says "Congratulations, everything seems to be fine and Shareaza should work properly."

So i guess that seems to be working OK?

That means that your computer is perfectly reachable from the internet, so at least there are no problems with your router/modem. (These are the problems that make the biggest percentage of the help requests on our forums, so I liked to eliminate this reason before trying other solutions.)

Would you mind telling us what networks you are using and what networks the sources of your downloads are located in?

And while you're at it, you could try to access some web caches from your service provider window. (See the view menu to open it; you must be in power mode (see again the view menu for this one) to see that option, BTW.)

I have also recently had problems connecting to G2. go to the hosts cache and see if there is anything under G2 cluster. If it is empty check if there is anything under G2 cache and if there is then choose a few at random and try to connect to them. Then go back to the G2 clusters and see if anything shows up there. if some show up then look for any that are not full and connect to them as well

I think I can confirm the connection problems the others have with 2.5.4.0.

I upgraded to the latest version some 3 weeks ago and my connections have gradually dissappeared since then. It took longer day by day to find the available hubs, especially true for G2 networks. G1 connections worked sporadically. My connection settings did not change from the 2.5.3.0 settings. Two days ago it got to a complete stop, I could not connect to any network, not even to any eDonkey host.

I downgraded to 2.5.3.0 and now my connections are established in seconds and the traffic is back to the usual in both directions, G2, G1 and eDonkey.

I have had no problems connecting to G2 with 2.5.4.0. It often will only form one DC++ connection and not try to make a second, though, for some reason, though.

If that is of any help, the latest alpha builds http://shareaza.sourceforge.net/?id=debug seem to connect effectively to the G2 network.
After about 2 hours of testing with build R8945 everything seems in proper functioning order.

Although the initial connection took about 3 to 5 minutes, everything appears to work well after that, connection is fairly quick after restarts and hubs are holding well.

I selected the "reset discovery service" option on install. (It might or might not have been a factor)

I did not test G1 connection as i never use that network. In my opinion G1 support should be removed but that's another topic.

Hi cyko_01 , old death and others.

Reading your posts, i seem to have unwittingly stumbled across a problem. If it helps, I'm using windows7 64 bit. Don't know it it is relevant to your discussion.

Old Death, should i sit this out until you guys figure out whether its a bug or not? An earlier post seemed to have had success by going back to an earlier version. Judging by some of the problems i have encountered, maybe that's' my best course of action for now?

I can now confirm the latest daily builds fixed the connection issue for me.

latest build solved also the connection problem.

Strangely, right after reboot I had a virus warning by AVG who killed an exe (c:\windows\is-ic1rg.exe) and an impressive number of DLLs and registry keys including keys like
hklm\software\classes\shareaza\shareaza.skininfoextractor.1
and DLL like c:\program file\shareaza\virustotal.dll
Note that I had started the PC and shareaza a few minutes before w/o problem (except the connection issue that I experience since teh upgrade to 2.5.4.0.) Dowloaded latest build from sourceforge and restarted.
What's up with that ?

try re-installing and if that doesn't work install the latest daily build. post results here so we know if it is the reinstalling that fixes it or a change in the daily builds.

Hi Cyko,

I think I'm the member that reported the problem initially. I uninstalled/reinstalled, and now its working fine, touch wood.

Hey guys.
I spoke to soon. Its back.

I log on and the exact same thing. Just shows a continuous "connecting to the network" and nothing at all goes on.

Suggestions anyone. ( This is an uninstall/reinstall)

Did you install the latest daily build? This seems to have been fixed there, certainly I no longer have as many issues getting G2 hubs as I used to.

If this gets confirmed to be due to a bug that is fixed in the dailies, there might need to be a bugfix release.

I can confirm (using r8961) that the G2 leaf to hub connectivity issue with 2.5.4.0 Release has been apparently fixed.

However, before a bug-fix release version goes out (!!!)... can someone confirm whether or not they see G2 download connections drop when only 1 of the 2 G2 hubs drops off (which of course will happen normally, from time to time). I think I've seen this once or twice, but can't be sure.

Maybe you have bad hubs? Try clearing the G2 host cache and getting new hubs from discovery. (There should be instructions somewhere since this used to be a very common problem, apparently there is a Chinese P2P client that looks enough like G2 that Shareaza sometimes connects to them but is not actually compatible enough for anything to work.)

I agree with ailurophobe.

For the record, I confirmed that my G2 connectivity issues were not related to bad install, hub rejection, contaminated cache, firewall, etc. R8961 simply fixed the problem, no significant further issues since. Minor issues are high CPU usage of Debug Build (of course) and Debug Asserts on resume from Windows XP Hibernate (selecting Ignore allows to continue normally and release build will auto-Ignore, if I remember correctly).

Once the major tinkering with DC++ is done, I propose a rush to release a bug-fix version (unless some other major fixes I am unaware of are still in the works).
