Host Cache

Postby taxiboy » 07 Jan 2013 03:56

A while back I was having difficulty connecting to the G2 network. I had connected to the G1, ed2k and DC++ just fine, but it wasn't connecting to the G2 network. I opened the host cache and noticed the all of the listed hosts were from china, hong kong and tiawan. Strange. I cleared the cache the then queried the discover services entry and it reloaded and was able to connect. I installed ip filters for china and hong kong in the peerblock program to see if it would prevent that, but still some get through, so if it appears that the connection to the G2 network isn't working, I open the host cache and remove the listings for those countries. Then it connects. Weird.

Just a strange event that I had with this program.

This is a well-known issue due to the bad design of some other P2P network (similar to G2 in design) with a notable user base in China and Taiwan. We're currently researching ways to prevent this in the future...

My Gnutella1 cache instead of IPs is full of such hosts as: "</script>", "function redir(){ var $fwd = 'http"... I have "Discovery.Enable.G1GWC" enable, all lists from http://gwebcaches.pongwar.com/gnutella_discovery.html. Is anyone going to fix this bug?

What Shareaza version are you using? I do remember this bug having been fixed supposedly some time ago...

You might want to try one of the debug builds available on the download page (you'll have to go with 32 bit builds, though).

Did you clear the host cache manually?

It is not a "bug"

So for anyone else who wants to unlock this "feature" ;)

By default, the current version 2.6 has the old G1 network disabled (Gnutella, Limewire, Bareshare etc.) because of the amount of spam and fake results.
To re-enable it, look in Shareaza's advanced settings (CTRL+P) and look for the section "Discovery.EnableG1GWC" and set it to "True"

Be warned YOU WILL SEE MORE SPAM !
I regularly open the cache window and delete all Limewire clients, so I rarely connect directly to any ;)
Shareaza tutorial aimed at gamers and game developers, or people needing a cheep mirror service.
