Feature suggestion: Mark search hits as "uninterested"

Postby Lanigiro » 22 Feb 2014 10:18

Here's a feature suggestion: on search results (and browse host, if that ever works with any hosts anymore), add to the right-click menu "not interested" (which maybe ticks and unticks). Items you mark "not interested" appear in a different color, can be filtered with a new tickbox analogous to "files you have already", "non-matching files", and the like, and are remembered across searches and restarts.

Implementation would require something like a radix tree of hashes to compactly represent potentially many thousands of search result hashes. Marking a file "not interested" would add its hashes to a set of hashes that's persisted across sessions in Appdata along with searches.dat, library.dat, hostcache.dat, and similar files. Unfiltering (if necessary) a "not interested" result and unticking "not interested" would likewise remove it from the list again.

This would be useful for those building a collection of material related to some theme, or looking for alternatives to some file that has a problem (such as stuck at 69% with no progress for weeks). Such users repeat particular searches trying to find alternatives or more items on a theme, but will get irrelevant results and other stuff of no interest to them as well. Being able to do something similar to "mark as read" in forum/mail/usenet software with search results that appear repeatedly but are just clutter to that user would be useful, allowing the user to focus on the results of interest: more sources for the files they're downloading, and alternative versions of the same file for in case the first one gets stuck, and new, previously unseen related items that they might wish to add to their download list, mark as "not interested" if they know they'll never want them, or leave be to decide about on some future date.
