Well you have to first understand the right techniques for searching at the appropriate times. My rule of thumbs are as follows:
1) If I'm searching for a specific file, then I only do a hash based search. The hashes to obtain are either SHA1, MD5, or eD2k. There are other hashes you can use like BTIH, but they only limit your scope to a smaller search base (only people downloading the bit-torrent file)
2) If for a specific filetype with a known metadata. I select the file category to search (Image, Audio, Application, Video, etc) and I also use the metadata to refine the search. For example if I know the file to be 20MB in size then I use the file size filter to prune out files that don't meet the the filesize requirement. Also you can use certain info to filter out unwanted files through the filter box ... for example You were seaching for an martin luther king's speech but you only know that the word dream belongs in the speech. You could search under audio for martin luther king, and use the filter by typing in "dream", no any result containing "dream" will be displayed all else will be filtered out.
3) Don't know the filetype nor the hash ... then don't bother searching.
Shareaza has a powerful search mechanism, but to truly use it requires finesse the first two ways are beginner tips ... you can even do boolean search.
