Hi,

today i discovered that the settings options in shareaza (2.5.2.0 release) was per default on :o
I searched the forums for this keywords, but didnt get a topic match to this, so i make a new one.

Isnt this an intrusion method many times caused people to get lawsuited? Not that i am afraid, but i dont have always control over what others are doing at my computer.
Maybe it would be wise to turn it off by default.

No, this only allows others to request from your PC a list of shared files. Others cannot do anything on your PC, only view the files you are currently sharing. This isn't harmful at all - except if you are sharing files that you don't have the right to share to in your country...

Still it supports the media companies to identify violators and to do lawsuits. Its like allowing to connect to media company driven edonkey server. If you dont connect to them by default, i wouldnt allow browse all files.

Probably publishing is not equals publishing? Which ways are there to list the shared files of a user?

1. ed2k: you connect to a server, the server knows your files
2. shareaza share-feauture (G2 protocol?) : share list of shared files
3. G2: publish share files to master hub

bittorrent: not possible

Shareaza is designed with sharing in mind. You should not being sharing copyrighted files for which you do not have permission to share.

Actually what is uploaded to the hub is a Query Hash Table. It is not a file listing and can not be used to generate one. It is simply a hash table that recognizes most queries that the hub does not need to forward to the leaf that owns the hash table.

Ech... Run some query and your client (no matter which, even BT via DHT) will return a hit. Tell yourself about the rest...
