No previews whatsoever

Postby zenith88 » 01 Nov 2010 16:54

Hi all,

I apologize if this was posted and resolved earlier, tried to find but found no relevant posts.

Anyway, with the versions 2.5.1 thru 2.5.3 I can't preview any AVI files anymore. All codecs are installed, and once the files are complete they play just fine - they just don't preview. I tested that on a multitude of different formats and codecs: MP4, Divx, Xvid and several others.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Our media player has changed as the code of the previous one has been lost. That's why lots of things still don't work as they are supposed to do (sorry, but there are other things that are priority before we can finish reimplementing the media player).

In order to solve this problem, the best thing is to get VLC media player and to configure Shareaza to use VLC as external player (it's very easy: just go to the settings, select the media player settings page and choose to use a "custom" player. Now select the vlc.exe file of the player you've just installed (should be somewhere within C:\program files\...)

Just out of curiosity, is the sad story of you loosing the code posted anywhere?

That part of the code has been lost years ago, when Mike was still on the project (Mike is the original creator of Shareaza), so I don't think you can find that part of the story, as it has never been discussed very much... IIRC, it was only forgotten to upload that part of the code to SourceForge and the only guy who had the code still had a hard drive crash => code lost. That's all.

You can use any external preview utility for example DivFix++. Just download it and unpack to any folder, then open Shareaza settings plugin page and add DivFix++ to "Shareaza preview plugin".

DivFix sounds interesting, but it crashes after I click preview. Giving preview plugin a new item with 'avi' ext and DivFix++ -i %1 -o %2 for a command line, is that correct? The FAQ page says it is due to a missing codec, but that is not true.

Report DivFix++ crashes to DivFix++ project tracker please, its unrelated to Shareaza.

DivFix does not crash, it creates preview just fine. Shareaza crashes after preview is created.

What purpose of that crap DivXfix ??? It is used by internal player or what ? What purpose of preview at all ? Because VLC and MPC can play direct from partial file.

It processes AVI-container bypassing empty or damaged frames and rebuilds keyframe index table.

Everyone who wants to preview a partial file without a media player doing these tasks on its own (which is true for most media players).
