Running Shareaza from an LUA

Postby hslsts » 02 Nov 2009 23:59

I've noticed that when I run Shareaza 2.5.0.0 Win32 Debug (r8283) as a user (not administrator) on W7RCx64 I get numerous results from Sysinternals Process Monitor when its filter is set to "Result - is not - ACCESS DENIED - Exclude". The administrator account doesn't have these permission problems. Is this standard behavior or a misconfiguration on my part?

It's not an accident as Shareaza has certain permissions issue in regard to Win7. The reason is that Win7 removes write access to applications in areas such as the Program Files folder when you start it without running it as an Administrator. Now this isn't a problem as it seems localized to only Shareaza as even uTorrent suffers this ... I think it has to do with UAC controls I havent tested it any further. Simple fix, run the compatibility wizard and allow Shareaza to always start with Administrator privileges.

I also run Win7x64 but the Release version. Other issues as I noticed is that it will hash the same file upon restart every time ... the reason is it couldn't save the Library.dat and TigerTree files to store the Hashes. Ryo any thoughts?

This again is a write access issue, if you look at the Shareaza folder permissions you'll see that Users do not have write access a quick fix would be to either run it in Admin mode or to go to the folder and change the Write permissions for the User profile.

Admin Permissions

Vs. User Permissions

Don't know if there is a code level change to do this upon installing?

It's ok. Shareaza never writes to its own Program files\Shareaza folder.
