Bad encoding on Music Library for non-Western languages

Postby d29yccj4 » 01 Jan 2010 23:59

Library->Music

MP3 files with ID3(v1/v2) tags with non-Western (i.e. Hebrew) text looks like gibberish. [WMP and Winamp shows the text properly.]

If the comment are non-Unicode encoded, Shareaza should use the language that is set for non-Unicode programs.

Shareaza 2.5.1.0 on WinXP SP3.

I thought uniCode is Shareaza standard, and should be followed if a language is covered by it? And I think against is that this would appear as complete mess on any other language computer perhaps.

I think you got me wrong.

I'm using English version of Windows XP and English version of Winamp, both show the ID3 tags correctly.
Shareaza shows the Hebrew files names correctly but not the Hebrew ID3 tags.
Windows XP standard is also Unicode, but the user can choose default language for ASCII. I think Shareaza ignores it and always using Western encoding. No mess at all.

Some users creates mp3-files with bad encoded tags, a pity. So Shareaza tries to detect correct codepage automatically (in fact it uses Windows current codepage first) but always allow user to select codepage manually, just right click file in library and choose "Localize Metadata".
