Router/Firewall config not working....

Postby returnofsid » 29 Jan 2010 07:08

Ugggh, this is driving me NUTTTTTS.

I just upgraded from Win Vista to Win7. I also installed Trend Micro Internet Security Pro. I am on Comcast Broadband internet. I have a DLink DIR-615 router. I am pretty sure I've gone through all the steps to configure Trend Micro and my router, but am still having issues. Shareaza does connect, will bring up results in a search, and will download, BUT VERY SLOWLY. For giggles, I've tried several common songs, with TONS of search results and attempted to download from several different sources. All sources download at a snail's pace. I've even searched for "Shareaza" and started downloads from several sources. They even go very slowly. With Win Vista, and earlier, with WinXp, Shareaza has always been very fast. I'm sure this has nothing to do with Win7, and is probably due to something I have set wrong.

Any suggestions? Tips? Advice??

Greatly appreciated!!

If Comcast is your ISP, then you will have problems with P2P in general, as Comcast is analyzing and filtering your content...

If you really whish to use P2P programs without problems, you should switch to an other ISP...

I've used Shareaza, along with Trend Microsoft, AND Comcast for several years, with no problems whatsoever. My current problem is that I've upgraded to Win7 and haven't been able get Shareaza working since. The only other change, besides upgrading to Win7, is that I also upgraded to the newest Shareaza. I've been through the Router/Firewall config. FAQ and still haven't found a solution. I've since deleted the new Shareaza and will be downloading an older version to try.

Update:

2 minutes later, I've downloaded Shaeraza v. 2.4.0.0, from the archives. It's configured, up and running, finding search results and downloading screaming fast, as Shareaza has always worked for me. Still on Comcast ISP, Trend Micro is up and running. All is well in the world.

[quote="old_death"Hmmmm... Sure you pass the connection test? (Can be found under Help>>Connection test)[/quote]

Yep, with flying colors!!

Results
TCP: The TCP connection has been accepted by your computer and the request has been answered. This means that other clients from the networks can properly connect to you.
UDP: An answer has been received from your client! This means that Shareaza is able to receive UDP packets from the network.
Congratulations, everything seems to be fine and Shareaza should work properly.

Then you do have the firewall and router configured correctly. But maybe it works now as you're running v2.4, because your firewall has an exception for the v2.4 exe file and it does not recognize (so it blocks) the v2.5 executable file. Maybe you just need to tell your firewall that the other exe file is trustworthy, too. In order to check this, run the connection test while operating on Shareaza 2.5.1.0. if you do not pass, then it's the problem I described. If it does pass, try the current beta builds and report back whether the issue you're experiencing exists also on these builds.

With the newest Shareaza, I had set the firewall to trust the exe file. I could not pass the connection tests, but could still use Shareaza, though it was VERY SLOW. As a test, I attempted to download Shareaza, which should be quick. I was downloading from several sources and it was taking hours. After deleting the newest Shareza, and installing 2.4.0.0, I have no problems at all. For some reason, either my firewall or router does not like the newest Shareaza, no matter what I set to allow or trust.

when i switched to win7, all my p2p softwares went firewalled. the trick to resolve this was to right click on the software's .exe and in the compatibily tab, to lect run as administrator (at the botton) and check excecute in compatibility mode and select win xp pack 3
