UDP Connection Test Fails

Postby thy_zombie » 14 Feb 2010 11:27

Heya Team

Has been a while since needing to ask for help but I recently had to replace my modem & network card. Unfortunately I do not seem to be able to get the UDP Connection to work :( TCP Connection is being accepted but UDP Connection is not answering the call. I've done all the usual requirements:

- Upgraded to latest Stable Release of Raza (2.5.2.0 - SSE2)... yes I have AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core with XP Pro x64
- TCP & UDP Port Forwarding has been done in ADSL Modem/Router.
- Firewall Exceptions added for Raza App.

Not using a Static IP... but never have (for many years) and never had a problem like this before.

I have done a firewall isolation test, disabling firewall temporarily and then running connection test again but it still fails. I highly suspect it is something to do with the new TP-Link TD-8840 ADSL2+ Modem/Router but am unable to figure out what!

As a direct result of this, the eDonkey Network will only connect with a LowID and spits the error: "WARNING : No answer from your 44944 port. Please review your network config."

Also, I noticed that I'm getting a flood of Network System alerts: "Security manager denied connection from 192.168.1.1" - Is this normal? I assume this referring to my modem?

Appreciate any input from the Raza Gurus ;)

In NAT -- Virtual Servers you have TCP/UDP listed?

If you only have one internet connecting device, you can try to set DMZ instead. That will tell if the problem is router related at all.

That's correct, ailurophobe. I have my Raza Port setup in NAT --> Virtual Servers.

In regards to DMZ, I do only have the one internet connecting device. Which IP do I supply? Router or PC? Do I also then need to remove the Port Forwarding for Raza? Thanx.

A DMZ host tells the router to forward all ports not otherwise forwarded to a specific private address. So you supply the private address of the PC and you have to remove the port forward for Shareaza. Otherwise DMZ can't help, it is only useful to you if the port forward is where the problem is and since the forward takes priority nothing can change if it is not removed. If setting the DMZ helps, the forward was incorrect and you may want to try setting it up again. (Using port forwards is marginally safer than using DMZ host.)

If DMZ does not help, some firewalls require a reboot after disabling.

Thanx heaps, ailurophobe.

Setting the DMZ has resolved both issues (UDP connection failure & Security Manager denial). Raza has had a stable and constant connection for several days now.

It sh!ts me that my modem has an issue adhering to my UDP Port Forward command. I looked at updating/flashing the firmware for the modem but it already has the latest version. Which happens to be quite old (almost 2 years old for Australian market and 1 year old for global). It's a concern that ISP's are shipping such outdated hardware.

I would just like to know one more thing about DMZ. Is it only opening ports that have been set in applications on the local PC, such as Raza? Or does it also allow unknow external requests to open any port that is requested externally (hoping this is not the case)?

Thanx.
