I came to ask a question today. I couldn't log in and the whole rhythm of the site seemed to be in disharmony.
There wasn't a definitive thread that explained exactly what happened, but the Wikipedia site shed some light on the perverse nature of the events which seem to have happened some weeks ago.
Here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shareaza
After several attempts to log in, i tried to create an account. I seem to remember doing this twice before, once years ago and once recently.
I can't create an account as myself. Someone else has already created an account with my name. I had to create an account in lowercase and with the number 1 attached my name.
Why can't the User Accounts and Profiles be stored in a safe place and easily restored in an instant? I don't care if all the threads go missing (it might be better if we clean out the cellar once in a while anyway), but as someone who has been a member of Shareaza for years, I'd really like to retain my identity and not have someone else steal it.
Other people may not care if they have to add a hyphen or a number to their name, but I kinda like my name and would have preferred to keep it.
IMHO There are certain things that should be stored or backed up - in case of treachery by a low-life goof - and can be restored in an instant. (so we can laugh at the punk rather than wonder what his home address is). One of those things is all the User Accounts.
In the future, I hope I can somehow return to being Hari Seldon instead of hariseldon1. Any chance of restoring our accounts and profile information?
This reminds me of when I feared that I'd lost everything on my hard drive. So I bought another one that I could back up the first one too - and I never had to fear losing everything again.
But then my new hard drive filled up, so I had to use the backup hard drive as an original hard drive, leaving me with no backup space again. This was temporary as I wait for HD prices to fall some more.
A few weeks ago, I lost almost 50GB of movie files when my OS conducted an unexpected CHKDSK that I don't know why this happened.
Now I need to buy another HD so this doesn't ever happen again.
Whatever happens, if it's worth it, should make sure that no matter what happens, nothing important is lost and nothing important needs to be recreated or rewritten (like the Wiki my God!). IMHO.
A good guy should take a huge payoff to sabotage Shareaza again and use the money to doublecross the bad guys by making Shareaza like Fort Knox. Wouldn't that be funny? We could all prepare by changing our bookmarks to these ones, so that we're redirected to the real Shareaza sites no matter what happens - http://sure-raza.com/help/
