Shareaza 2.5.4 + kaspersky

hello,

i very happily downloaded the new version of shareaza, hoping it would solve the so many freezing the last version had.

as soon as i ran it, i immediatly notice a bigger use of processor usage. shareaza has always used too many of it (+ many memory) but now it more at around 85%.
a quick look in the task manager show that shareaza is using about the same amount of cpu it always has but now, kaspersky (kis) is also going crazy with a cpu usage around 30/40%.

if i stop shareaza, kis is returning to a quiet mode.

i didn't notice kis acting like with previous version

and for the freezing, well while typing this and wanting to check version number, shareaza froze, it still haven't wake up yet, still downloading/uploading but nothing i can do with it, can browse the different tab, can't check version, cant minimize it to the task bar....all i get is a little noise

i'm on win 7 32 bit, 2go of ram and dual core e5300 @2.60ghz

Yes, this is a Kaspersky configuration problem. Since the Shareaza executable has changed KIS is now using the default application rules instead of whatever it was using for 2.5.3.0. You need to give it an application rule for Shareaza that tells it to be less aggressive. The exact instructions should be in the documentation you have for whatever version you have installed. The high CPU hit you see for Shareaza could also be caused by security software, btw. Many anti-virus programs have a separate P2P module that scans any file accesses P2P applications make extra carefully and sometimes this overhead gets added to the CPU usage for the P2P application.

yep i use the sse2 optimized version and yes i pass the connection test (for earlier version i think i had to run as administrator and while executing as xp comtability, should i still do the same or it can now be used without doing that?)

i'm trying to do the exclusion with kaspersky and see if it makes any changes

thanks!

humm, excluding shareaza from kaspersky didn't changed a thing but removing the searches.dat did miracles, no more cpu usage from kis and shareaza!!

cant we have like 10 search tabs open, even if they are not running and are empty of any search result with shareaza anymore??

No idea. Try it out, this could have been caused by something in the searches.dat file you removed being corrupted. Anyway, looks like Shareaza was trying to serialize the searches to the disk, then aborting, and then trying again a very short time later. The increase in the Kaspersky load is probably kind of my fault, actually, the buffer size Shareaza uses when writing the searches to the disk was increased to improve performance when there are lots of hits, which it does, but if Kaspersky tries to scan the buffer for malware the size increase means there is 64 times as much to check... But at least it made you notice there is a problem instead of Shareaza being slow application... So all is good that ends well.

but do shareaza need to write the searches to the disk if the tabs (opened with shareaza, from last session) haven't been activated or changed (even by adding words in filter)?

No, it doesn't. It is rather obvious there was something wrong, my guess is that the searches.dat was somehow corrupted and made Shareaza not work properly in this aspect. This really doesn't happen normally.
