Failed install of 2.5.5.0 on a Windows 2000 machine

When I attempt to start Shareaza I get an error message that says: "The procedure entry point FindActCtxSectionStringW could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll".

My guess here is that 2.5.5 is incompatible with Win2k, for some reason. 2.5.4 worked without a problem.

Apparently Microsoft recently released a Visual C++ redistributable that is not Windows 2000 compatible and this is the error that pops up as a consequence. This apparently contains instructions to fix. No W2k, no test, so no guarantee.

Thanks! I'm going to try this fix shortly and post the outcome here. Well, not that it matters much, since Win2k systems are a rarity now, but given the fact that Shareaza is listed as being Win2k compatible, one would expect that it works nevertheless.

No luck unfortunately. Even the supposed latest and greatest solution doesn't work for me, as the update simply fails to install. I do have the problematic version of the DLL, so the problem is almost certainly there, but I can't fix it at the moment. I'm keeping 2.5.4.0 in the meantime and considering ditching Win2k, it's high time anyway.

Honestly, I think W7 is the first version that gives a compelling reason to upgrade from W2k.

Just asking... You did remember to uninstall the current (flawed) version of the runtime first?

I can second the complaint about 2.5.5. I'm still using W2000.
