Download replaced my file - how to prevent?

Hello. I had a file in my download folder named "bells.mp3". I was searching for more ringtones and clicked a link. It had the same file name and replaced my original "bells.mp3" in my download folder. My original file is lost forever (boo hoo).

Does Shareaza have an option to use a new file name for new downloads, like "bells (1).mp3" so that a download doesn't kill my existing files if it happens to have the same file name?

Thanks,
- Jeff

No, I am sorry but that bug has not yet been fixed in Shareaza yet, however our developers have been working on it recently (AFAIK).

Thanks for the quick response. I'm a little sad to find out that this has been a bug since version 2.5.0.0 released in 2009.

I would offer to help code the fix but I suspect this is connected to file system support which is a design issue. I'll wait until the fix to use Shareaza's awesomeness for my particular application where I need it to download files without deleting previous files.

Most certainly, this isn't related to file system support, but to the download management code...

If you were willing to help us improve Shareaza, we'd be happy BTW.

if you see it coming you can pause your download, right-click and select properties, and in that dialog you can change the filename
