MediaLibraryBuilder hangs

Postby mikie1729 » 03 Oct 2011 10:06

As above.

On adding the folders to the Shareaza library, it starts hashing the files, but it hangs. It managed to scan the folder that is on my internal hard disk (900-odd files), but when hashing the files on my 2 external USB drives, it hangs on the first file it hashes. Restarting Shareaza continues with the next file, which hangs it again, and so on... I have over 13000 files to scan, and I'll be fukked if I'm going to restart it that many times. When I say "hang" I mean only the hashing process in the little pop-up window down the bottom... the rest of Shareaza seems to be going ok.

I looked into the Task Manager (this is an XP machine), and on killing the "MediaLibraryBuilder" process, the hashing continues but it gets stuck at the next file because the process is restarted again, and so on.

Occasionally it will hash few files before the "MediaLibraryBuilder" process is restarted, at which point it will hang again.

Another process called "MediaImageService" also runs on Shareaza start, but after I kill it once it does not come back until Shareaza is restarted.

This is an XP SP3 machine with all the updates, and this behaviour is with 2.5.4.0; 2.5.5.0; and 9059 debug build. It didnt happen with older version, I think it was 2.3.something. I was getting the unresponsive Shareaza window before, but clean install has fixed that issue.

Any ideas what's going on?

In Settings/Plugins you can try disabling Media Library Builder.

Windows should log the error that causes the problem but the location varies by Windows version and name by country, so I can't tell where to find it.

Alternately the problem might be with the specific files containing something the media library builder can't handle. You can try excluding files to see if others work. Media Library Builder settings allow disabling it for specific file extensions.
