I have downloaded the nodes.dat file and I imported it. I see lots of nodes... why can't I connect to any of them?

you can't. kad is only partially implemented. I've said it many times before - that kademelia cache button really needs to be disabled.

Well, there is progress.. Shareaza does actually have working Kademlia implementation now... but only as a part of the BT DHT code. Still re-factoring that and adding the code on top for Kad is almost certainly easier than writing Kad code from scratch. Knowing ryo he probably was smart enough to pick BT DHT code that is relatively easy to re-factor and extend.
