Deselecting bit torrent didn't move Shareaza out of the way

Hi all. I've used Shareaza for many years. I rarely use it now. I use utorrent and can even strip mp3 from YouTube videos. The reason I haven't used Shareaza lately is mainly because it simply doesn't work that well for me. And that may certainly be me. I am not tech savvy. But I"m not totally stupid, which is why I come to sites like this. When given clear instructions, I can usually trouble shoot and solve problems.

I just recently downloaded and installed the latest Shareaza and wanted to find a few thing. It seemed to work not bad. It's not lightening fast like utorrent, but I don't need lightening speed all the time. I mainly use Shareaza for mp3 files.

It seems simple enough. De-select bit torrent in the settings and Shareaza (I have the latest) doesn't attempt to download them. Is there a bug or something or is my old age playing tricks on me?

hello,

you simply need to re-associate utorrent with .torrent file.
go to utorrent settings and you should find that in the general setting tab

Thanks. But I remain mystified about Shareaza. I got it from SourcForge, so I'm not too concerned. I would have uninstalled it had I not got my utorrent to work. But I copied and pasted the torrent url into my utorrent and all is well. My utorrent has taken back the association all on it's own.

Well, it's simply like this: Shareaza can only "take" such a file ending association, and not give it to some other application. So after Shareaza had "taken" it and you changed the settings, Shareaza just dropped it and uTorrent needed to take it back on its own (which it probably did on its next restart). Does that solve your mystification?
