Warning technicolor modem incompatible with P2P

Sadly those people using the Tecnicolor modem right now as I am are probably sufferring from seemingly unexplainable problems from ShareAza detecting firewalls that are not active to frequent LowID connections. The news are not good for what I've read these particular modems chipset is extremely problematic with P2P exchange.
Here's what i found, the article offers a solution via accessing the modem through Telnet but I'm unfamiliar with Telnet access I'm guessing it's from the command line though...
