G2 discovery

I have moved Shareaza to a new laptop and G2 discovery services are not working.

I have followed the instructions in the wiki to no avail.

The issue, as far as I can tell, is that most of the discovery domains are no longer resolving with DNS (even google's public DNS servers).

Anyone else experiencing this issue?
Anyone have any idea how to resolve it?

Although a lot of DNS addresses are missing, I can load http://gwctest.zapto.org:1337/ in a browser, but Shareaza still cannot load hosts from this page.

Without discovery my G2 host cache is empty and I cannot make G2 connections.

Can anyone help?

Try the other GWCs listed.

I reinstalled Shareaza on the new laptop, exported and imported the registry entries for the settings. I didn't copy across the incomplete folder because it was empty.

I have added as many discovery sites as I can find - but only 2 resolve through DNS, but even these do not populate the host cache.

Why would it not work?

BTW - Shareaza has been working since I transferred it - I was able to download a file previously - it has only just stopped working.

For GWC you can try them in the normal browser to see if they are working, this is working for example: http://hitleronhelium.ddns.net/cashin/skulls.php

Which bit about DNS entries was unclear?

I have tried them in a browser and only two of them actually load - the rest get DNS errors because the domains are apparenty not registered in DNS any more.

It is perfectly normal, they are just died, try other GWCs.
There aren't so much of them that are working but there are.

I found at least two discovery servers that are live - one of which I could clearly see a list of hosts, the other of which gave an "I am up" message but I couldn''t see any lists.

But Shareaza didn't load any hosts from either of them.

Inside Shareaza you can select a gwc after you have added it and force re-querying it.
Try removing it and readding it if it doesn't work.

Did that - and removed any matching Block records.

There are two things that may block you from aquiring hosts:

1) What version you have of Shareaza?
Some versions may be blocked by GWCs.

2) If you have queried too much frequently your IP may have been banned.
In case you have a dynamic IP try turning off the router and turning on again to change IP.

I have a static IP.

Shareaza 2.7.8.0 32-bit

The only difference between this PC and the previous one is that I used to have a country ban list for HK, CN and TW - too much spam etc. But I forgot to export / import the list. But I can't see that as the cause of G2 discovery failure.

Its very odd.

The version is OK.

The country ban list for HK, CN and TW will help a lot since there is a lot of spam from them, it can make a great difference since the host cache can be filled with spam hosts and unable to find a working host to connect.

It could also be that since there a few GWC now, maybe your Shareaza have queried them too much they have banned your IPs.
Maybe try to stay 1 day with all p2p clients closed to see if then it you will be able to query them.
(Some GWC may have a sort of banning to prevent abuse and if you contact them again the ban time increase every time).
