hello guys,
last night i wanted to tried the latest built of ver 2.4.0.4, seeing that the new version is soon to be out and that the beta built haven't much bug lately.
so i downloaded what was latest built (2009-09-25 / r8213). today i first upgraded to it without doing a clean install, envything went fine, except that after launching the soft, i notice a few bugs in the file downloading bars and quite some load on the cpu. so i think to myself, well i haven't done a clean install, thats the reason..... so i do a clean install, also download today built (2009-09-28 / r8214) and now the nightmare begins!
i have to say i've kept a few files from my previous (normal) install, they are:
BrowseHosts.dat
HostCache.dat
Library1.dat
Library2.dat
Searches.dat
TigerTree.dat
and i put them back into the data folder after each clen install so that i don't lose all the data
so after that clean install, i install r8214, put the files back in the dat folder, launch shareaza and here to my surprise, all my search tabs are not appearing and the files i'm currently downloading are not present (while still being in the incomplete folder!!
i then uninstall shareaza, try to install r8213, put my files back in data folder and same result as above!!
i uninstall shareaza, put back normal version, put my files back and here my search tabs are appearing (but since i've installed a newer version i can't unforntatly access to my incomplete files anymore)
so seeing that i tried to install r8214 over 2.4.0.0, launch it, the search tabs are here but the cpu loads is enourmous, shareaza is unresponsive (it's not freezing but i cant browse thru the different windows or even close it normaly).
as you have seen, after a clean install, the search tab aren't there. if i reinstall r8214 over r8214 (so without uninstalling it), the tab are back here!!!! but still no sight of the files i'm downloading (grrrrrrr i guess i'll have to search for them all again)
anyone with a idea of what is happening and how i could have shareaza behave normally (means have all those search tabs without having a high cpu load and having my downloaded files)?
thanks

Hi there are 2 versions of 2.4.0.4 - "debug" takes more CPU and "release" which don't have additional code for contrling performance and reporting problems, hence is less CPU consuming as normally Shareaza does.
Please let us know your system version + sp, CPU, memory, HDD.
@dev: if ppl will have dissapearing incompletes this will be not acceptable IMHO.

You should only do a clean install if you are experiencing problems after a normal install over the previous version. It just doesn't makes sense to uninstall and reinstall it again and again (and BTW, an uninstall and reinstall with copying of the .dat files is not a clean install, as for a clean install, you would need to delete the registry keys manually and not keep the .dat files
)

i'm using the release version, not the debug.
i'm on XP sp3, 1gb of ram, P4 2.66GHz, Hdd is 80gb with like 17Gb free
after another uninstalling, i reinstall ver 2.4.0.0 and then installed r8214 over it. i finally maange to see my files but heavy cpu load because of all my search tab i believe (even if they are not searching and are free of result, 43 tabs to be exact). now when i try to close one, shareaza crashs everytime!! (some report have been send BTW)
i tried removing the searches.dat from the data folder but still all my searches are here, maybe at next reboot, they will be gone???
i did try to install r8214 on my laptop, so i uninstalled 2.4.0.0, use cccleaner to get rid of the remaining registry files, rebooted and then installed r8214. to my surprise, i didn't see any of the files i was currently downloading!!!! i then uninstalled r8214, installed r8213 right away, still the same, no files, did the restore setting, restarted shareaza, this time the files were here(surprised to see them as normally we cant use partialfiles from a superior version) ,reinstalled r8214 over it and my files were still here. put back my searches.dat files and as on that computer there is not much tabs, everything went fine, no heavy cpu load

the problem is that i get a heavy cpu load with 2.4.0.4. it seems to come from the number of search tabs i have.
i have now reduce them by a good half but the cpu load is still important !
i also notice that kaspersky avp.exe is using some cpu when shareaza is running (i was not being connected to any netwok!)
it also still have a tendency to crash when i close search tab, i just opened a new one, closed it (without even searching, i haven't tried yet connecting to a network) and it made shareaza crash (although it doesn't happened everytime)
also, in my incomplete folder i have now some partial files starting with ttr instead of ed2k or sha1

the tt files are tiger tree files.
as i said when i first installed r8213 over 2.4.0.0, i beleive there some bugs as some download status for some files looked strange, a little green bar (like the red one for error) for the bits i've downloaded (and not a full bar for them).
i've now realise those file are according to shareaza said to have 0% downloaded when if you check their partial file, have some data downloaded.
so those files have also a tiger tree file saved on the hd which is the size of the complete file if i merged those 'buggy' files with their respective ed2k/sha1 file, otherwise the size is zero!!!!!!!!!!!!
ewwwww what a fucking mess!!!!!!!!!!!

As I have said users will not be happy. I think this should be solved ASAP.

eats more cpu even on that one??
Shareaza_2.4.0.4_Win32_Release_r8214_2009-09-28.exe
it still crach sometime when closing a search tab (13 tabs open, only one was used to perform a search)

I have reported this crash on closing search tab already. And not one time. As this is one of most common user behaviour I think before it will be solved this is not possible to launch 2.4.1.0. Second one blocking bug is loosing old incompletes on upgrading to newer version. And third one is CPU overusage also reported already. The last one can be a half-true considering debug version, but those 2 cannot be hesitated I think.

Its useless using release build to debug since I have no shareaza.pdb for this. Ask kevogod to include separate zips of shareaza.pdb and shareaza.exe for every build on Daily Builds page. Its too boring to extract them even from debug installers.

just wondering, has space allocation for files changed??? it used to use only what was downloaded, i added a file yesterday and it sizes the full file size already, not what i've yet downloaded from it
also have i miss one advanced setting?, but now to see finished downloaded in the list, you have to activate the no source filter

You should be able to change the setting to pre-allocate files.. I dont remember where it is though..
edit: nvm, probably thinking of utorrent.. couldnt find any option in shareaza

3 search tabs open, no search running and it keeps on being unresponsive. does it do not handle also large quantities of files being paused????

Take it easy and stay cool. This why this is called "weird behaviour". Of course this is not proper.

the search.dat was in the data folder in the shareaza folder. maybe it's a survivance of an old version???
i'm back at 2.4.0.0 cause 2.4.0.4 is way too unstable on my computer to be useful

well, i've just installed r8218 over 2.4.0.0.
31 search tab, no downloading files, not connected to any network, cpu usage is around the 50% range (lowest i've seen is 41%, biggest is 69%, shareaza is minimized!!!!) looks like it is still the same. no freezing yet, but switching windows is a bit slow at time.
so back to 2.4.0.0
