DC++ suddenly won't connect

Started last night. DC++ is stuck "connecting" all the time. Restarts of both router and Shareaza did not correct the problem. Everything else is working normally including web browsing and including Shareaza connecting normally to ed2k, G1, and G2 and able to upload and download files from these. Everything at my end points to it being the DC hub no longer accepting connections from me, but a) I haven't done anything wrong that might have provoked a ban and b) changing my IP address did not fix it. So there must be something my Shareaza instance is now doing wrong during the handshake that it wasn't doing wrong a couple of days ago.

What could be causing this and how do I put things back to the way they were on Wednesday?

The DC++ problem has returned, after an interval during which it was operating normally again.

What is the cause of this and how can I fix it to always work?

Also: Why on Earth is this the last site remaining that doesn't use HTTPS even for logins?

The DC++-won't-connect problem is back, which makes three times now. The first two incidents lasted for a few days before it returned to normal seemingly as spontaneously as it developed the problem. This time, however, that hasn't happened. It has remained in the non-working state for over two weeks now.

a) How do I take control of this and toggle it back into the working state on my timetable, instead of whenever Shareaza feels like it?
b) What is causing this issue? I haven't installed any updates or changed any settings. (In fact, it's been 2 years since the last time there even was any update to update, which is a year longer than usual. What gives?)
c) Why did the first two instances of this resolve spontaneously, but not this time? After two weeks I think it's become clear that only a manual intervention will fix it this time.

The non-working state of Shareaza's DC++ has, at this point, survived all of the following during those two weeks:

* Multiple restarts of the Shareaza client (at least five)
* DHCP change of my IP address (possibly even more than once)
* Restart of router (once or maybe twice)
* Restart of computer

Everything short of a full wipe-and-reinstall, that is. I'd hate to have to resort to that (lost settings and partial downloads, etc.) so can anyone help me?
