Having ED2K problems again
Posted: 16 Jan 2020 16:53
Suddenly doesn't seem to want to stay connected to my preferred ED2K server. It's slow to connect, and every time I check it after a few hours I find it's jumped over to PEERATES without my permission.
How do I force Shareaza to stay connected to a particular ED2K server come hell or high water? I believe I've asked this question before but have yet to receive a satisfactory answer.
The odd thing is the glitchiness is intermittent. Weeks go by with it mostly staying connected to my preferred server, and then it starts playing up like it has for the past two days with constantly disconnecting and jumping around without my permission. This occurs across restarts of Shareaza and without my making any explicit changes to its configuration. It's almost as if there's something going on at the other end, but there shouldn't be: the server's job is just to sit there doing its job in an impartial and nondiscriminatory manner. It shouldn't be slower some weeks than others, or become prone to dropping connections for a time. How would such behavior be in any way useful, either to its own operator or to the user base? Another reason it shouldn't be at the other end, of course, is because if it is, it's unclear what I'm supposed to do to fix this, and yet at the same time I am clearly supposed to do something to fix this, in order to avoid getting poorer search results/performance than normal. It would obviously be unjust for me, personally, to be saddled with diminished search performance without there being something that I, personally, should have been doing differently, even if that's just some minor settings tweak somewhere under Shareaza's advanced options.
So far as I can tell, my ISP is (for once) not causing any problems. Everything else (web browsing, etc.) is rock-stable and has been for months.
