Can't finish downloads...only connects to one neighbor now

Postby macleod1134 » 08 Nov 2009 08:09

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT THIS JERK-OFF (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=259)...(and I'm not accusing anyone or b*tching. Just reporting a possible bug)...but I'm having the same problem.

Here's the story: At first I could connect to five neighbors, then it got knocked down to one. When I would do searches, Internet Explores would only load blank pages, or it would take so long to start up that I could go make a sandwich and come back and still be waiting (literally...). If I tried to open a new tab in IE 7, it crashed. Everything lagged (by everything I mean WMP11, Nero Showtime, Freecell, Solitare, Internet Explorer, etc.) horribly. When I would do searches, for example, "latest Shareaza Update" I would get results like "Update latest shareaza" and it would have an average of five sources with the same IP address. Or I would get a bunch of results that had the same combination of words BUT NEVER IN THE ORDER I TYPED THEM INTO THE SEARCH BOX. These would also have the same IP address, so when I hit ban user I lost all my results. I tried doing a clean install with the same version, same results. I updated to the latest version (on the sourceforge sight, by clicking the "Problems with the download? Please use this direct link or try another mirror." I read the reason why it doesn't auto-start in the post I referred to earlier :D ), same results. I also noticed that although my CPU usuage was really low (avg. of 7%) my page file went through the roof and into orbit (1.9 GB). I booted into Safe Mode and ran a scan with Malwarebytes as suggested, but it only found a couple tracking cookies. I booted into WinDoze normally and scanned with Norton 360 and it didn't find anything. Anyone have any suggestions. I am a dedicated 'Raza user from the old days and don't want to abandon the program...but everything grnds to a halt when I open it up and connect.

When I first installed it would connect to G1 and G2; I don't really like E-donkey so I turn it off on install. Now it only connects to G1 (If I disable G1 and try to just connect to G2 then I get the "Connecting to network..." message. The longest I have let it run is an hour with no luck.), specifically Limewire (anyway to ban that?). All of my results come from Limewire and it's always spam. If you check the Network tab it refuses to connect to anyother countries except Tiawan and Hong Kong (although I only saw HK twice). I went through and just started banning hosts for the h*ll of it trying to get a different host country. Tried for like an hour with no luck. I have also been using the quick ban on the spammers (you should SEE my Security Block List, it's HUGE! LOL!) but it's the only results I get. Tried to do a clean install also (and even rebooted after I uninstalled) that worked once (Connected to two hosts in France), then it reverted back to Tiawan the next time I started 'Raza. I got 1.5 GB RAM and 2.1 GHz AMD processor. My connection test opens a page in IE and jumps on the net (I thought 'Raza did this internally...?) always comes up:

Results:
TCP: The TCP connection has been accepted by your computer and the request has been answered. This means that other clients from the networks can properly connect to you.
UDP: An answer has been received from your client! This means that Shareaza is able to receive UDP packets from the network.
Congratulations, everything seems to be fine and Shareaza should work properly.

I'm begining to wonder if I need to wipe the drive...but I got a subscription to Norton 360, and I also have Malwarebytes (which I only run it in safe mode) and everything keeps coming back clean. I have also tried the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool twice and it comes up clean. Oh, and one other thing. Whenever I hit the maximize button, it locks up and I have to kill the program with taskmanager. Possible bug?

Thanks for the help guys.

Basically your G2 host cache has been polluted by Asian clients you can't actually connect to. Don't remember the exact fix and I don't have Shareaza installed at the moment but find the host cache window clear anything related to G2 and/or Gnutella and then find the discovery services window and query some web caches. Other people can give more accurate advice, but if you keep trying to do this long enough you will eventually succeed. The wiki also has more info, if 'try until it works' is too brute force for your taste.

Now G2 cache can't be flooded by Taiwan/Hong Kong Foxy hosts, hits from Foxy hosts also not appear in search tab.
So if you install new build and clean G2 cache - G2 will work fine and this situation will never repeat.

Actually it just makes it much less likely and less severe. It won't stop you from having a cache full of older clients that had their caches polluted. Fortunately looking at the commits it seems a 2.5.1.0 is coming relatively soon (in Shareaza release terms) and once enough people have updated to that... then the problem really will have been solved.

If the problem persists, just use a debug build. They should be more stable than the 2.5.0.0 build ;)
