Get file error when downloading torrents in Win7

Postby sgtrock05 » 09 Dec 2009 14:33

I have used raza for some years and it always works great. I am attempting to set up my new laptop with Raza 2.5.1.0. I am using Windows 7, 64-bit. The install seems to have gone well. I have good connection tests. I have the settings close to those recommended in the installation guide. I have port forwarding open appropriately. I use Norton Internet Security and have allowed raza through. I have attempted to adjust the Windows Firewall settings to disable but struggling a bit there. I have tried allowing raza through the Windows Firewall.

Problem #1: When I try to download a torrent I immediately get a file error - no downloading occurs.

Problem #2: Can someone viewing provide me guidance on how to completely disable the windows firewall for Windows 7. When I open windows firewall window I am told "home and work" connected and "public" not conencted - not sure this is relevant.

Help please.

If you're using Win7 x64, first thing to be done would be to get the 64 bit version of Shareaza, which you can download on our debug builds page: http://shareaza.sourceforge.net/?id=debug (the "release" versions are normal builds (they show only a smart debug build warning at startup), while the "debug" version can be used to assist testing (in case you would like to help the community by reporting bugs/crashes automatically once they occur).)

I had been trying to use the x32 version of 2.5. In the mean time, last night I worked my way through the General Rules in Norton Internet Security and made some changes. I also found another location where I needed to allow raza as an exception in Windows 7 (more hidden than on XP or Vista). After those changes everthing worked great last night on several downloaded torrents - and I did it with the x32 version of 2.5. For now, since x32 is working for me, I'll keep using, but if I should experience any other problems I'll use the x64 debug version.

Thanks for the help.

As you're using a 64 bit operating system, you should try to also use 64 bit software, as this can use your computers resources more effectively.
As for the settings of Norton Internet security, could you plz update the description over here: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/s ... llsRouters (or if you are using a newer version of Norton Internet Security, you can also create a new page. If you need help on doing this, just tell me ;)

I ask you to do this, because it is important for everyone that the information in the wiki is kept up to date, in order to make it possible to help everyone.

I will make the change to x64 version. I will also follow your link and provide the details on NIS changes - will be tonight as I'm away from my downloading system.

Old Death, I attempted to follow the link to post my changes but did not know where they should be added. If okay with you, I will post them here and let you copy and paste as you see fit.

If using raza 2.5 x32, Windows 7 64-bit, and Norton Internet Security 2009/2010, set router (if you use one) for port forwarding and then do the following:

1. Open NIS, select internet settings, select advanced settings configure, select general rules configure, then ALLOW windows file sharing and UPnP Discovery. You should also under program control ALLOW raza. I also turned OFF stealth port blocking in advanced settings.
2. Open public sharing in Windows 7 and ALLOW Shareaza under programs.

**I do strongly recommend also using PeerGuardian2**
