Lost Downloads... How to Recover Them?

Postby induring » 22 Dec 2009 17:31

I have a lot of incomplete downloads I would like to restart. They are not listed on my Download Tab anymore because I'm a DuMass. I have all of the *.partial and *.sd files in my incomplete folder. If I cannot restart them, can I extract the filenames from the partial files and start new? I neglected to write down the filenames/titles as I queued em' up. Can I recover anything useful from the partials? What if I move back up to ver 2.5.1.0?

I was having issues with Shareaza 2.5.1.0 (see Note if you give a hoot). I uninstalled 2.5.1.0 then went back to 2.5.0.0. I tried to import the eDonkey partials, failure. I waited until after my 50GB library was rehashed, hoping it would auto recover the partials, I'm a bigger douche than I thought. Started a new download, still no dice.

Dazzle Me Baby. 8-)

Note: It would not connect to the G2 Network (kept trying Asian Hubs, and kept being denied) and search results were moving randomly (even after clicking Stop) when I would try to highlight them (very distracting). NOW I know how to empty the host cache but rolled back to 2.5.0 before I read the forums (assuming it was just the new version experiencing bugs).

I think you incomplestes are still on disk, only not visible. If you will not delete them, should be useable when will gain visibility again.
I would try to install latest debug build to make them visible, but I am not sure ofthis so better wait for anothere advices from those who had similar problems, and solved it.

Thank you for the Thought, it is appreciated.

I installed the latest version and the Downloads are still not visisble and yes the files are still present on my HD. However I need the Space and I am now deleting them.

Note to the Management: I know you guys have alot to consider and I don't usually whine, but the one thing I would like to see is for all *.partial files to have the origional download filename and URI or Magnet link included in the Metadata for the temp files. This way, when morons like me do something stupid, whe can at least find and restart the download again from the begining after we fix our mix. I have other suggestions if the aforementioned doesn't suck. Otherwise, thank you for an elegant client and taking pride in what you do.

[quote="induring"]Thank

@devs: I think in rightclick>advanced properties>actions menu following actions should be introduced:

1) "search in selected folder for local incomplete file(s?) related to download, merge and reverify"
- add checkbox option "delete related incomplete file(s?) from folder if it was merged to current download"

2) "search in selected folder for local incomplete files related to any of downloads
(so for all downloads), merge and reverify"
- add checkbox option "only for active downloads" / "for all downloads" - this way by pausing unwanted downloads this process can be limited only to wanted.
- add checkbox option "delete from source folder related incomplete file(s?) if it was merged to current download"

3) "start new download for all orphaned incomplete files in folder, merge and reverify"
- add checkbox option "delete from folder related incomplete file(s?) if it was merged to current download"
- add checknox option "do not merge orphaned incomplete", so only start a new download
- add filter allowing to limit incomplete files to be processed by value of: size, extetion, date, perhaps something more but I don't know what ATM.

4) And last but not least:
- needed is [cancel] button if user would want to break process.
- Would be good if name of processed file would be displayed (some like it some no, like small display window of hashing, so there should be setting for turn this display on/off, as user want).
- also would be good if would be a slider to set up CPU occupation in relation to other software activiteis. Default: 50/50

I think this could be done by using hashes present in incomplete files, and using current "merge with local file and reverify". But those should be separate actions, but not bigger "merge with local file and reverify" IMHO. And this could help with many lost or not visible or old downloads and/or orphaned incompletes.

Gravyboat... GRAVYBOAT... GRAAAAVEEEEYBOOOAAAT...

I find random things like that to be hysterical, I guess most people won't, but it sure woke everyone up huh? Its also a great way to relieve stress. If you didn't like the last one, try to make one up or use this one:

:P Alabaster candles walk with sombrero-fish as umbrellas, tilting the Water Buffalo.

To answer you next question, I won a free lifetime supply of stupid pills and plan to get my money's worth, , or at least some sh*ts & giggles.

Anyway:

Thank you for the ed2k file name breakdown, I hope I never have the need for it again, but will keep it in mind. I have been wondering about that little H symbol, now I know, but still hope to never need again. I found alot of the files I had lost, so I guess I'll get over it.

What about hash data from Gnutella 1 & 2, can that be somehow extricated from a file or de-obfuscated from the filename? Notepad and Wordpad have find functions and can both open non-text files and I did try this without success. Also, could Hash Data be used in the Security Filters? That may help some people with some extrenuous Spam/Virus Search Results without blocking legitimate results. Just something to consider (or am I just beating a dead horse?).

$64 Question: I would love contribute to the project, but about all I can program is my VCR, is there anything I can do to help somehow?

Yes, you can help. This project is still alive ONLY beacause poeple come here and one day find out "oh, I could help". And just do in what they are best. We need Shareaza to be known, you could try to be our next "The voice of Shareza", you are gifted in this I think ;) Make people at blogs, sites, news to know Shareaza is here and it worth to try it. We also need potential developers to know there is a work which can be done for free, only for satisfaction and good feelling of doing something important and sagnificant for all the humanity. And finally we need they to know about us or scummers and atiShareaza Nhazghuls will try to close project. When publicity will know us then Shareaza got a chance. You could create this chance if you think you want to try and do this.
 And because this is open source you are to find out your self how to do it, this is charm of open source.

And always you can make with us brain washing for new users to let them know Shareaza is fantastic and this is nothing that this is not working for them ATM as should but after some adjustments just will fly at speed of light, this is piece of cake ;)

But if you are satisfied using Shareaza then first pay Shareaza tax: make at last 2 or more of potential users to know Shareaza and ask them to try using it.

Have fun with Shareaza. You are welcome to visit galxy with Shareaza if you want. This is not an piece of cake, hard staff.

Thank you both very much.

Ocexyz, you would be correct, I do have a big big mouth and am more than happy to use it on Shareaza's Behalf. I also got more than 2 potentials! I have four or five... Word o' mouth baby!

Cyko_01, Thank you for the inside scoop with the Hashes and filenames. I will totally check out the Wiki but I hate Spam with a Passion, so no worries there! Taking this logic one step further: files that start with ttr would be Tiger Tree huh? If we ever meet, you have my permission to smack me for not getting that association on my own, I'm usually smarter 'en that.

And of course, thank you both for not being di*ks and telling me to shut my fat pie hole. Which is what usually happens. :(
Also, I'm pretty good with photoshop, PM me if ya need anything visually tampered with.

Have a Smurfin' Great Day Kids! Just watch out for those damn ducks, they have Bon Jovi powered laser toads!
:D (Like I would miss an opportunity.)

if you can figure out some xml code you could make some new skins for shareaza. You could even just take an existing skin and modify the images.

I know some basic HTML, nothing fancy like Java, but I've read XML is similar in many ways and I would love to try my hand at Skinning. I was also thinking of creating some buttons or banners for users to put on their websites. I know I could make some eye catchers without being anoying like some ads are, I wouldn't use animations. I may even pick up a few books on XML or C++.

Thanks and Happy New Year to All.

I Salute You with a Standing Ovatiation and immediately fall over laughing! I litterally gave you a standing screaming stomping round of applause and I think my neighbors may have called the Cops because I was so loud. Thank You, that truly made my New Years Day complete!

Was I right or was I Right? Saying disjointed sentences is great fun!

But how did you know its frosted? ;)

I was also thinking I would like to contribute to the 'Users' Manual' if that is still a project being furthered. Who would I speak to about that? I would need a lot of information and an Editor-in-Chief to keep me in check. I will hold off on submitting any Skins until I figure out how to do something very special, I love surprising people.

I don't know of any user guide that exists. if you are talking about the Manual on the wiki I can give you edit permissions. if you are talking about the installation guide. You could always make your own guide. regardless of which one you are thinking about the forums are the place to be.
