Can No Longer Connect

Postby buttonjn » 23 Dec 2009 13:40

I have tried it all. Approx 3 weeks ago I lost my ability to connect to Shareaza. I was running 2.4.

Background: Windows XP SP 3 with Shareaza 2.4, Zonelabs Pro, Symantec end Point Protection

All was well then I lost connection to G2 and subsequently G1 and Edonkey

I upgraded to Shareaza 2.5 and no change. I downloaded the clean install and ran it and reloaded but still no connection. I then went through all the instructions to make sure my router was setup correctly (made changes and rebooted), per instructions changed zone-alarm and symantec, downloaeded the TCP/IP modification for XP, followed Old Death's instructions for installation and still nothing. Did another clean install of Shareaza and processed the connection test all (both) came back as connected and green. Problem though is I still cannot connect even though the connection test shows everything is fine. In the network window you can see where Shareaza is trying to connect but they come back a connection refused. Beginning to think my Verizon DSL is being blocked by someone outside.

I have been having this exact same problem the past few weeks! Tested the connection and it was green...removed and reinstalled new program..still nothing! Have been using Shareaza for 3 or 4 years with no problems! I am using windows XP with service pack 3. I am Cable and just recently dropped one level in my internet speed...could that be my problem? It will sit there for hours trying to connect! any help would be greatly appreciated!

What networks are you connecting to?
Are they activated? (see neighbours window)
Your connection test shows all green? Nothing red?
Are there hosts in the Host Cache?
Have you tried manually querying some discovery services?
What is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?

Thanks for your reponse Old_Death

I attached a screen shot of the Network screen after I start shareaza. To anwser your questions above:

Trying to connect to all three (no success)
Nothing connects
All show green in the connection test
Yes there are hosts
Yes I tried to manually connect
Verizon (telephone DSL)

I have run out of ideas as to what the problem is. As I initially stated I researched and did everything that was identified and suggested. I am at a loss as to what is the problem. One strange thing that happened two days ago however, is after be open for 24 hours I notice I had "one" G2 connection for about 30 minutes and then back to no conenctions.

I suggest doing a fresh install and selecting the option to 'Reset Service Provider and Host Cache' during the install process. Maybe the Service Providers in your Host Cache are mainly dead or bad ones returning tons of Hosts that are impossible to connect to. If this doesn't help, try doing the same with one of the debug builds (the link to their download page can be found on the bottom of the normal download page).

Old Death

Thanks again for your reply.

I tried all of what you said in the past even up to 2 days ago. I am currently running one fo the debug builds. A new twist though. Last night G2 started to conenct and I have not done anything. G1 has no connections and Edonkey still will not connect. I am still at a loss and keep wondering if my problem is with my carrier Verizon and their DSL network.

Thanks again.

You could try to use not 6346 standard Shareaza port, but any other higher then 2000. Do not forget to portforeward new port. Sometimes this could help for ISPm but effect is not granted.

Also if you were often turning on/off Shareza from connection many times, perhaps you has been "punnished for bed behaviour. This is temporary, so you could try to leave Shareaza working/connected for longer time and see. Sometimes this help.
