The developers need to fix the 2.5 blues and soon!

Postby punkmaister » 23 Jan 2010 17:06

Look I know you guys don't want to hear this but it is the truth whether you like it or not and I'm not the only one, the posts here and PMs of other end users like myself attest to the fact that 2.5 is continues to be plagued with problems and bugs from the GUI freezing to Bit torrents which on the Earlier versions used to be a breeze to use. People something is awfully wrong with the new code and as such I'd suggest to reuse the old code until the bugs of the new code can be ironed out, this is just a suggestion and I suggest you hear me out because a lot of people are bugging out and moving to other products and ShareAza up til recently was an awesome fun to use product and not the bug infested unrecognizable thing it is now.
End users don't need the hassle of Debug builds nor want too and again up till recently we did not need too either but now everyone has become like it or not a BETA tester ever since 2.5 that has been the policy and is not a good policy, just as it not a good policy to downgrade the MEDIA player and then tell people to go through the hassle of reconfiguring INI files and more just to get the OLD player back but without the visualizations working because THEY don't work on the current versions PERIOD!

With all due respect and whether you like it or not this is not a dead horse or a dead issue it is very a live issue and will continue be until either the problems are fixed or people move to other products is as simple as that. I am telling you this because I do like ShareAza and would like to see it continue as a viable P2P platform for the foreseeable future and this is placing that very future at risk...

The issues are already known. Repeating the same points in every post you make does not help change anything.

Be an active player, submit bug reports images and details. Their are bugs, but things will get ironed out eventually. Believe it or not ... for me this has been the most stable set of alphas so as an interim check out the alphas and see if they are heading in the right direction with regard to fixing the bugs which are annoying you.

I don't like the level of spam and viruses on the search results this has me most concerned right now as to the future of G2, maybe keyword searches and iterative walks are now a legacy function ... maybe we should go hash based and encourage people to download files they know the hash for in other words DHT anyone?

The mediaplayer, you know what stop being a cry baby. Use vlc or any alternative if the current status of Shareaza's media player is not up to snuff.

Yes it seems this project caters to beta testers now, I don't know if you noticed the situation we are in with regards to the domain name, copyright, lost morale, etc... The remaining regulars are a fraction of the once vibrant community. As much as I hate it, the overall stance has been a cautious one. Simply moving this along is all anyone can do really ... yes it may be a protracted death knell but really there are good alternatives and Shareaza is only here to fill a niche, a programmers cornucopia ... a avid music listeners only remaining vistage of getting single mp3's, a p2p client to socialize with ... as you see the audience who like this are only a select few to others maybe it is time to move on.

This doesn't mean it's lights out, what I'm stating is clearly this project is for a smaller audience ... big networks with large user bases are a thing of the past. Small reliable users is more than good for G2 to properly function. Also new blood and big ideas are needed ... not repetition.

For the 100th time! The program just freezes and it has to be terminated via the Task manager there is no error report generation of any kind! If there was I would have shared it here a long, long time ago...

For the 101th time, use an alpha for the time being and stop whining. It's not like you haven't been heard the first time. If users have problems with version 2.5.0.1 they can either roll back or obtain an alpha for which might be stable.

Let me put it this way, would releasing an equally untested and unknown alpha as an official release soothe you or twist you into a pandemonium? Tell us what you want ... the bugs which might be afflicting you may have already been resolved in an alpha ... try it out. If things are still wonky, then we try again.

to be honest there are probably only 10 bugs that are being reported over and over again. This happens with every release. Every release is released with known bugs (often reported minutes after being released) but they are minor and are ignored. There are always one or two bugs that are a major problem and are usually fixed within a few weeks but do not justify a new release with more new bugs in it. Just because this bug affects YOU it does not make it more or less of a priority. 70% of people with a problem they cannot fix will come to the forums but only 1% of people without problems will come to give kudos, so we take each bug/complaint with that in mind.

As always, a new release will be released WHEN IT IS READY and only then.
