Connection and hashing questions

Postby grindy » 17 Feb 2010 00:36

Hi all,

Here's what I'm using:
XP SP3
Shareaza 2.5.2.0 32bit, connection test passes just fine.

I just installed/configured Shareaza on an older XP system to be dedicated to P2P (actually not that old, but plenty of power/ram etc.)
I have consulted the Wiki and "query'd" the GWebCaches and added new GWebCaches ( lots show hosts/urls/accesses etc.)

My 2 problems:

1) Shareaza has been running for over an hour and is still "Connecting" to Gnutella2.
What should I check or do to get it to connect?

2) Shareaza shows that it is "Scanning and Processing 32729 files".
I used the "default" settings for "shared folders", so how is it scanning that many files?

I've used Shareaza in years past with no abnormal problems other than the usual router/firewall stuff and it worked just fine....
Any/all suggestions appreciated...

re1) read "Shareaza Instal Guide" by OldDeath. Check what is written there, if problem not solved ask here again - not enough info, at last for me.
re2) check carefully and immidiatelly if by accident Shareaza is not sharing whole your disk. Just check carefully in Shareaza settings all set folders. For obvious reasons that would not be good if you would share to much of your data IMHO.

@1) You can also find some useful information on the Troubleshoot wiki page.
@2) The Library window should show you the files and folders that are in your shares. There you can find out what files Shareaza is hashing. (Not yet hashed files are in darker gray color)

hoping for more info on this issue. I've happily been using an older version of shareaza for some time - 2.?????. Anyway, a couple of days ago, it just seemed to stop working. The status just went to "connecting" on G2, and stayed that way. I've since upgraded to the latest version - same problem. Nothing has changed on my system - in the way of firewall, antivirus, etc. It just stopped working.

When you click connect, it just stays saying connecting and stays that way till you finally have enough and close it down again, a look at the info screen shows

Connecting to G1 works, but edonkey doesn't either

The connection test passes by the way, and I've read the guides above, but still no further forward

Surely there can't be just the 2 of us that are having this problem. A google search shows nothing recent about it. Hopefully someone can give an actual fix or advice, other than "read this"

Just run the installer again and ask it to reset the discovery and host cache.

BTW, if you use a more recent version, this is more probable to work as newer versions also contain more recent cache addresses.

thanks OD, will try that, I didn't select the reset when I installed, as I didn't want to lose partial downloads etc. Any idea why it just stopped working? Literally it just stopped working, hadn't even been shutdown in the meantime, 1 minute it was merrily downloading, (and has been for ages) the next time I looked, it was saying "connecting"

It's 2.5.2.0 I'm using now, but it was 2.3.something I think, that just stopped connecting, hence me taking the latest version to see if that fixed it
