Error during install of 2.5.2.0 SSE

Postby tomtop » 17 Feb 2010 10:02

I've just updated from v2.5.1.0 to v2.5.2.0 SSE2.

While installing I got an error: "Unable to rename Shareaza.exe, Access denied" (Options: Retry, Ignore, Cancel)
and right after that a new error: "Unable to rename Skin.exe, Access denied" (Options: Retry, Ignore, Cancel)
and after that a new error: "Unable to start Skin.exe" (Options: Ok)

The installation left me with a defect shareaza. The resulotion to the problem was to manually delete "Shareaza.exe" and "Skin.exe" from "C:\Program Files\Shareaza" and then install shareaza again.

I have Vista Home Premium - fully updated.

Are you sure that your current Shareaza was not running when you tried to update. If not - try right-click on installer and select "run as administrator".

The installer probably does a backup of the old files in case the user cancels the install before completion. Apparently it does this by renaming the old files to .old or .bak files or something similar. My random guess is that you had sometime before had a failed Shareaza install and there already were backup files and the rename (and install) failed because of that. You might want to run some program that removes useless files, they usually can remove old install backups and other temporary files.
