Open Call to Shareaza Team Members

I have set up a "shareaza status blog" so we can notify/inform users if things get ugly or if something goes wrong. The problem is that I have a real-world life and job, which means I can’t be online 24/7. For this blog to be useful we need to be able to inform people the same minute something happens. In order to make this possible we need to form a rapid response team. Everyone who feels they are a member of the shareaza team should register an account. If you are a trusted member of the community then you will be given permission to post and edit once your identity has been verified. It doesn't matter how good your english is - nobody expects you to do a 5 page write-up on the event - you just need to write a few lines explaining the current situation and what we are doing to resolve the problem.

that will not work if sourceforge is forced to suspend or delete our account. It needs to be something off-site. You can't report about a site being offline if that site itself is offline - that is the whole point of the blog. It is not meant for regular project news like "this week Jimmy introduced a new feature..."

Totaly prepeared and paranoid are not the same you know. SF site was the only site we always have. Feel free to create any site you like but such site controlled by single independent user will not be a official site anymore.

An unofficial backup in case of disaster is not paranoia but reflexively distrusting old
friends because of the actions of a new one is. What happens if sourceforge loses
that bogus lawsuit because a judge makes a mistake? Suddenly your only "trusted"
site turns out to have been owned by somebody you don't even know and never did.

Preparing for the worst is not paranoia, it's common sense. This is not exactly
duplicating the whole project elsewhere but that would be a really good idea too.
For that, I recommend Launchpad because the tools are more advanced and also
open source. They are strangers too, but at least there's more than one person
so maybe that would make you more comfortable than dealing with actual friends. :P

You don't understand. Cyko dont offer backup facility but offer news/blog site for our project with forced(!) registration of all developers. Plus very strange service of link redirection: 3-level domains to links to our site. :?

I understand exactly what he offered because I went there and examined it personally.
It's a good idea and it's existence as an emergency meeting point is no threat at all.

I am also suggesting a full backup site just like this one in case this one suddenly is forced
against their will to block our access to it without warning. It seems unlikely, but a court does
have the authority, even if it was deceived into doing it.

I agree with this approach. I think this is nothing to do with paranoya. This is just prevention against known threats. And users should have more then one place possible to verify where is next safe place, and whatsmore should be informed where they are and wwhich are trusted - not fake. And last but not least: to my limited knowleadge SF is in private hands. We don't have any guaranties who can be in position either of Jhonson or Ervin. But if this will not be effective for agressor to attack then this will be most effective prevention and secure for potential victims. There is no sense to prepare next attack when this will be uneffective. I hope you see logic in this. We should be prepared, as next surprise will come someday. Doing nothing against is just a different kind of paranoya IMHO.
