I have not tried it myself, but I'll probably start recommending this instead of PG2 with the AIOASF once it reaches 1.0 (v1.0 will have a signed driver)

I can confirm that peerblock works fine on windows 7.

PG2 is solid piece of software. "(...) <Urden> pg2 isn't being actively developed anymore apparently but peerblock is forked from pg2 codebase and is being actively developed (...)" "(...) <Jessay> Peerblock is better for vista/ultimate. Phrosty is no longer going to develop PG2 infact he suggests peerblock on the site itself. So basically PG is slowly going to become pb"
PG2 and PB use the same lists format. In next year format for list is going to change. So PG2 could be not be compatible as not developed. But "(...) <fakhir> I-Blocklist will always offer lists in the P2P (PeerGuardian2) format. Updates will be available for PG2 for the foreseeable future. (...)"
So IMHO Vista and later users can use PeerBlock, however it is very very freshy. Win2k till Vista can stay with PG2 for "the foreseeable future", and can have hope PB will be compatible.
Your is choice. I will keep using PG2 as long as possible, because I trust it and it is tested&trusted IMHO.

btw PeerBlock ver 1 has already appeared as I know.

About PeerBlock read here http://www.peerblock.com/docs/faq.

Why use such applications ? What you afraid of ? Or just want to waste some CPU and memory resources ?

PeerGuardian and PeerBlock waste CPU and memory. Doesn't help to stop malware, fakes and spam in Shareaza and other P2P applications. Also 95% of IP that PG/PB blocks should not be blocked by normal users.

If someone will going to attack your PC (who is so smart and have so much time to waste ?) - he never will use any IP from well-known ip-lists that PG use.

PG2/PB waste your resources and add instability to system. And even more performance degradation and instability when using commercial security application - they already have functionality to protect PC from network attacks.

PG2/PB should be used only by people who really know what they are doing and why?

OCE, as always you use many words to write many ridiculous things.

PG2/PB is useful tool only for people who understand what they do and know how TCP/IP network stack works. If you not one of them - using PG/PB is waste of your time, waste of PC resources, waste of sources for Bittorrent.

so what you are saying is that if you can't find a solution that blocks 100% of spam/etc then you might as well not have one at all ?!

If we took this approach to viruses then every computer on the internet would be infected with dozens of viruses. Like virus creators, P2P spammers also crawl the web looking for easy targets who do not protect themselves. It is much better to have a partial solution then no solution at all

Anyone who wan't to be protected should use normal security/firewall/antivirus application installed. PeerGuardian is not firewall, it's pointless IP blocking applications that can't protect anyone. It can't protect u from downloading fake data from bad/fake seeds - uTorrent and other applications do it already without any third-party buggy applications. All decent P2P applications have support for ipfilter.dat .

forgot this in previous message : http://neuron2neuron.blogspot.com/2006/05/blocklist-balderdash.html

Don't rely on PG/PeerBlock - use real firewall application.

Cyko_01 +1

PG2 or PB DO NOT replace nither firewall nor antyvir, only blocks sources of things you don't want. And also allow you to decide who (what IP you want to eliminate from your traffic). IP can be changed, but some owners can't just do it "in fly". So from certain point this can be uneffective and from certain effective. Eg if you can note who is flooding you or anything like this you can block him. If someone do not care about servicing his sys and has became zombi and I will note this I will block him without thinking how good source is it. Etc, etc ,etc. This is pontless discussion. If that would be useless then there would not be a development of PB which is continuation of PG2 development IMHO.

BTW: PeerBlock works also fine on WindowsXP.
It's a nice replacement for PeerGuardian, no long-time before shut-down anymore :)

Do that. 38/8 was blocked years ago as a necessary precaution.for hosting the biggest anti-P2P operations
in the first few years of gnutella. It was only recently that good reasons for exceptions started to come up.
