1 on 1 connection thru Gnutella to eDonkey with Shareaza...

Postby lenatime » 09 Jun 2012 02:46

I've been on the eMule forum asking about a legal issue. Someone said I should ask someone on the Shareaza forum.

A detective wrote in his affidavit that he connected to Gnutella using Shareaza to make a 1 to 1 connection on defendant's computer. Defendant's alleged illegal file was affirmed to be acquired from the eDonkey network because defendant only used eMule to get this file.

The question is can a user go through Gnutella using Shareaza, connect to eDonkey, then get onto a computer (and the cops apparently do not have to issue a warrant for this), make a direct 1 to 1 connection, locate file and then download it? Would he have to go through eMule to find this file? I believe he had the hash value, so they could I suppose search for the file on his computer a variety of ways, like a particular hash value (right?). If the file is only on the eDonkey network but they're connected to eDonkey through Gnutella, can they make a 1 to 1 connection. Wouldn't that be a security breach?

No such functionality like proxy in Shareaza.

Then could the detective connect to the user's computer directly through Gnutella using Shareaza, because the user was connected to the eDonkey or other servers? I think the detective said he used "shareaza le" which I can't seem to find, but maybe it's a version that only law enforcement uses?

Would you be interested in reading this affidavit and giving me a technical opinion. It could be informal. And I would be willing to pay you for reading it and providing me with an opinion on the technical merits of his statements. I need someone who really knows this technology to read it and tell me if what he is saying is even possible.

If anyone who has solid knowledge of these technologies would be interested in reviewing an affidavit on its technical merits, I would gladly pay for your time and expertise. I really need someone who can decipher the statements made by this cop in this affidavit. You wouldn't be legally responsible for anything. It's a 20-page affidavit. Anybody interested?

I'm having trouble installing Shareaza. I have a 64 bit windows 7 OS and everytime I try to install Shareaza it hangs. Should I not be installing the 64 bit version?

Both versions (32 and 64-bit) works well.
