Introduction

The Wiki offers an immense amount of knowledge to all users. Since the content is mostly first created in English, it needs to be translated manually by users for it to be available and readable for a variety of users from different countries. Wiki translation differs from other translatable sections in the project since it is done online and submitted automatically. Editing the wiki is possible by anyone who has an account. To create an account, simply click on the Log in link in the top-right corner of the page.

Instructions

  1. Open the page you want to translate and click on the link displaying the name of your language on the top of the page (like on the top of this page). See if the page is already translated\partially translated.
    • If you don't see the list, edit the page (English version) and add on the top: {{Languages}}.
    • If you see the list but your language isn't there, check if it is a supported language. If it is supported, create a new page named the same as the English page and add "/" and your language code to the name.
  2. If no one has started a translation for the page, copy all contents of the English page to it. If there is a partial translation there already, make sure you copy the missing English content prior to translation. Even if the translation is incomplete, all contents must be there. You may of course correct translated parts.
  3. Click on the Show preview button on the bottom of the page to see if the results match your expectations. If everything looks fine, write a short description in the Summery field and click on the Save page button.
  • Each page has its own discussion page, use it to talk about the translations both in English and foreign languages.

Template handling

  1. Before translating, make sure the page does not have a Do Not Translate template. Translate pages with the Translate Me template. You can also use this template yourself to indicate that this page needs to be translated.
  2. While translating, use the Being Translated template. Also, go ahead and add the Languages template with your language.
  3. After translating, remove the Being Translated template. You can also put up the Check Translation template for others to go over it. Do not remove the Translate Me template as it serves other languages as well.
  • A list of templates available for your usage has been categorized. The templates' pages usually contain usage information about them.
