Installing Shareaza

To use Shareaza you must first download it and install it on your PC. Shareaza works on Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Win7 and following versions of the Windows operating system series. It is compatible to both, x68 and x64 versions of these operating systems.

To install Shareaza, follow these steps:

First, using your web browser, go to the Shareaza download page, which offers links to the latest version of Shareaza. If you're interested in using beta/alpha builds with the latest code, you can also download Shareaza from here.
On that page you will find links to download Shareaza. You can either use direct download from within your web browser or - if you have already a P2P application installed on your computer - you can use the provided P2P links (Magnet and eD2k links) to download the installer executable. Click on your link of choice and a file download dialog will appear.
You will be asked what to do with the installer file. Save it to your local Disk.
Once the download has been finished, open the file you've just downloaded. It has a red envelope as icon.
You will be prompted to choose a language to continue using during the installation process.
A License Agreement comes up. Read through the GPL and change the radio button to I accept if you agree to the terms and want to continue the installation.
Choose the name of the Start Menu folder to be used/created for Shareaza. The default value is "Shareaza".
If you get an error in selecting the location of the install, see the troubleshooter on how to solve this particular problem.
On the next Window, several option s can be chosen. Multi-language will install additional skin files to use Shareaza in languages other than English. You can also choose whether to create a Desktop or Quick-Start icon for Shareaza. Enable discovery of UPnP devices will try to et up port forwarding on your modem/router/NAT - if the respective device supports this feature and has it enabled. The option Reset Discovery and Hostcache is an option only important on upgrading to a new version. This will reset your connectivity services as well as the list of known IPs of other network participants to their respective defaults. This can solve connectivity problems from time to time.
There is an option to delete old installers (not present on every installer). Choosing it will delete older versions of the Shareaza installer from your hard drive permanently.
Check your settings again on the next screen, go back to correct them if necessary, and then click on Install.
Once the installation is complete, you will get a warning about the necessity of an up-to-date virus scanner, including a link to this page for further information. Click at the button labeled Next and on the following page on Close to exit the installer.
You might want to delete the installer executable, as it is no longer needed: Go to the place where you previously saved it and delete it like you delete any other file from within Windows.
Now you are done installing Shareaza, and can continue to the next step, which will guide you through running Shareaza for the first time.
