NewWebsiteDesign
(Final design yet to be determined, so this is just for estimation purposes...)
General Layout
- Navigation
- Top Navigation bar listing all sections, rollover buttons
- Logo should be visible on all pages at top bar
- Make Help function/category very clear and quickly identifiable.
- Page Layout
- Less text, more informative pictures. Flash can be used to describe intricate things.
- Fonts / Typefaces
- Short Text - Verdana is great at 10pt bold for menus and smaller text strings.
- Long Text - Perhaps a different font for paragraphs, though. It can be a pain to read paragraphs in Verdana,
- Coding
- W3C Compliant
- CSS 2.0
- HTML 4.01 Strict
- Support for different resolutions
Site Hierachy
Home Front (1 Page)
- Top Section of the page will be something welcoming to new users
- big-*ss "Download Now!" link
- Emphasize No-Spyware, ads, anything of the sort. All Free (freeware!)
- News about Shareaza
- Controllable by Wiki...? What kind of programming? (something dynamic at least (not just HTML -stealth)
- A newspaper-columns feel would be an interesting style to try.
- Short introduction about Shareaza
- Links to Affliates, Gnutella, G2DN, official chat room
Download(1 Page)
- Mirrors (HTTP) should be at the top, MAGNETs at the bottom.
- Use the MAGNET and ED2K logos for their links, I think people are familiar with them.
- Little text or button to lead confused users (magnet links? What's that?)
- Format
- A tabular format with titles in one column, and a colum with links to the right (using one picture for HTTP mirrors, then logos for the last two -- ed2k and gnet. These should have bolded source names like "Download from the eDonkey Network" and "Download from the Gnutella Network" in the same format as the mirrors, and be at the bottom of the list. What about posting Torrents to Shareaza?)
Tour (3-6 Pages)
- Maybe go Beginner > Advanced > Expert so people can see how easy but how extrodinarily powerful Shareaza is? (let's see how far the rabbit hole goes...)
- Screenshots should demostrate the shiniest moments of Shareaza
- The first page of the Tour should say the BEST of Shareaza (and what are they...?)
- The things to feature here are the easy home tab, media player, downloads panel showing multi-source in action, search window with metadata.
- Not too many pages, but enough for ppl to click around to show that it's not a shallow program.
- Make sure to demonstrate some good, modern Creative Commons-licensed files (I'm ([Ashitaka]) sharing quite a bit) rather than the silly "mozart - requiem.mp3" that the BearShare team seems to be interested in. (Scorch: definitely!)
- Show some FAQ as something persuasive (as sell points: e.g. Is Shareaza completely free? Yes, completely, and no spyware, ad free!)
Skins & Add-Ons (Automatically-Generated)
- Anybody thinks the affliation with DeskMod is still nice? If yes, how can we incorporate the Add-Ons section with it? (We need an ETA on when DeskMod will be up again... - stealth)
- to be reformatted and integrated properly
- Use IFRAME?
- Show off Ogg's skins at the top and then use the current DeskMod system to browse (although it is a little glitchy).
- Hmm, only one Add-On. Publish some that are already in the application as examples. remove them when we get others. How about some simple plugins before 2.0? like a stats viewer, etc.?
- A link to Dev section and Forum
Forums
- Re-code the forum stylesheet (Volunteers?)
- Must fit in with the theme/colors of the new site's graphics
Wiki (General)
- The Wiki start page doesn't really look that great. A few images and text formatting might spruce it up a little.
Help (Wiki)
- Wiki
- A FAQ section
- Help well-composed with good screenshots
- A quickstart page for help in general (part of the main site), easy interface like a "mini-FAQ" on how to get help of different kinds.
Dev (Wiki)
- Developers' Resources for building Skins and Add-Ons for Shareaza
- Links to G2dn
