Troubleshooting Installation Path

If you have an existing installation of Shareaza then when the installer is run again to upgrade or reinstall it will not allow you to change the installation location. If the path doesn't exist because you removed that hard drive or something similar then the installation will fail. Uninstalling will also fail. So what should you do?

One solution is to delete both of the following registry keys if they exist:

  • 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Shareaza_is1'
  • 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Shareaza'

If you don't know how to get into the registry do the following: go to Start > Run > type "regedit" without quotes and press OK/Enter. Please remember that the Registry is the socalled heart of Windows so we urge you to make a backup of it.

Then you can run the installer and choose your new installation location.

Another solution is to run the Shareaza Installer with a special command line option:

go to Start > Run > type <PathToInstaller>\Shareaza_2.2.1.0.exe /DIR="<DesiredShareazaDir>" and hit Enter (replace <PathToInstaller> with the folder your Shareaza Installer is located, e.g. C:\Downloads; replace <DesiredShareazaDir> with the folder you want Shareaza to be installed in, e.g. C:\Program Files\Shareaza) Shareaza should now install to the specified folder.

If you've never installed Shareaza on the computer before, and so can't apply the registry fix, then try installing an earlier version of Shareaza (hopefully successfully), and then over-installing the latest Shareaza version. Earlier versions of Shareaza (such as 2.0.0.0) are available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/shareaza/
