My download goes backward!

What's up with my download?

The more you download, the more your download percentage grows. To make sure you don't get corrupt chunks, Shareaza makes a hash check for every bit downloaded and will detect bad chunks. If Shareaza finds a corrupt chunk, it will delete it and try to download that part again. The deletion of the bad chunk will cause the download percentage to go down a bit.

File:Trans tth.png There is a verification line at the bottom of the progress bar, which shows the current verification status. The green parts have been found to be correct. If you get red parts on this line, then Shareaza has detected bad chunks and will redownload them.

If this happens, is my file still OK?

Of course. Shareaza makes sure that the download is good before finishing and automatically re-downloads bad chunks. Kazaa, and similar software, do not do this, resulting in numerous corrupt downloads. However, Shareaza can't use this method to repair files that are already corrupt; it only prevents more corruption to happen.

But my Download keeps erasing and redownloading all the time! Why?

The x-ray filter from the shareaza security centre is outdated and is no longer available. This section needs to be updated

It's possible that Shareaza downloads the same corrupt parts from the same source again and again. If this is the case, you might want to try to identify the bad source by watching which part is downloaded from which source (by looking at the colors). This may be a bit difficult to see, but if you happen to identify a source giving away bad data, then right click it and select Forget. Also you might want to add a ban for the offending IP in the security window (type F7).

There are collections of security rules, which ban several type of bad hosts, including hosts known to upload bad data all the time. It is recommended for every user to install this. Go to the Shareaza Forums. There you'll find more informations about the Shareaza Security Update. For direct download via Shareaza, go here: Shareaza Security Update.

It's also possible that Shareaza made an error in judgement. But don't worry, new advanced features make fixing this a snap.

  • First, make sure you are in 'Power Mode'. (Menu View > Power Mode)
  • Right click on your download and enter the Advanced Edit Panel (Advanced > Advanced Edit).
  • Under 'Actions' click on 'Forget Current Verification Status (and Reverify)'. Click 'Yes' at the next dialog.
  • Shareaza will reset it's verification data and try to reverify the file.

Last but not least, always update to the newest versions of Shareaza to get the latest bug fixes and improvements.
