My download says "Moving" in the status column forever

Shareaza downloads a file, completes it, then tries to move it from the incomplete folder to the complete folder in the correct format. It can take a while for the move to occur since Shareaza calculates hashes for the files as part of this process. Sometimes there are problems during moving. It is often caused by users setting the complete folder and incomplete folder to the same directory (so don't do this -- in the Shareaza settings-->internet-->downloads, make sure the incomplete and complete folders exist and are different). And sometimes it gets stuck on 'Moving': no one yet knows why. Here are some solutions for the problem, one of them should work for you. The list goes from safest and easiest to riskiest and hardest. I'd try the first one and go down. Keep in mind, wait about a minute between each step, since Shareaza actually can take pretty long moving the file.

  • Pause and Resume:

Just as simple as it sounds. Right-click on the download, pause the download and resume it.

  • Restart your Computer:

Again, pretty easy. Upon reboot, start up Shareaza and see what happens.

  • Make a new incomplete directory:

Here's where it gets a little harder. Open up windows explorer (My Computer) and make a new folder. Anywhere is fine, but it is easiest to put it on the C:\ drive and name it incomplete or something like that. Once the folder is created, go into Shareaza and go to Shareaza Settings > Internet > Downloads. Take note of the incomplete folder ("Save Incomplete Files Here"). Change the path to the incomplete directory to the folder you just created. Now close Shareaza (Exit it, be sure you do this) and go into your old incomplete folder. Now copy the files over from your old incomplete folder into your new one (make sure you copy the .sd files too). Now, restart Shareaza - in the downloads window the files should resume "moving" and hopefully be done with this process quickly. If it worked, go delete your old incomplete directory.

  • It may be that something is wrong with a .torrent file used to start the download:

  • Copy The Incomplete Files Manually:

This is riskier than the last step. In Shareaza go to the transfers tab, and pass your mouse over the download and examine the box that should pop up. Note that the file should have one or several identifying hashes (which start with ed2k, SHA-1 or BTIH).

Was the download a BitTorrent download (they have a BTIH hash)? If it is a BitTorrent download how to proceed depends on whether the BitTorrent was a single file torrent download or a multi-file (or batch) torrent download. In Shareaza, go to the view menu and change to power mode. In the transfers tab or downloads window click on the download and view torrent info. If there is one file in the listing, it is a single file bit-torrent download. If there is more than one file, then you have a batch torrent download. You can also check to see if a torrent is a batch or single file torrent by using Torrentspy. Batch torrents will have a "files" (note the plural) entry in the info section of the .torrent file, single file torrents do not.

Assuming the download was a single file torrent download, quit Shareaza and open windows explorer. Navigate to the incomplete directory. You should see your incomplete download and an associated small sd file with the same name (Shareaza data file). You don't need the sd file now, so you can toss it away. Note that the incomplete download should have an extension, if it doesn't have an extension, probably the download was a multi-file torrent. (*Windows sometimes doesn't display known file extensions -- see the folder options control panel or start menu item in Windows.) Move the incomplete download to the completed files folder.

Assuming the download was a batch or multi-file torrent you will need to do some more work (:neutral:), and use yet another program (:twisted:). Please refer to Troubleshoot.MoveError for advice.

For either type of torrent download please try to reseed the torrent download. If reseeding fails the download may have a corruption. You can likely fix this corruption by opening the .torrent file and the files recovered from the Shareaza incomplete directory in another bit-torrent program, such as Burst! or Azureus or ABC. These programs will then redownload the corrupt bit that were lost.

If the stuck download wasn't a BitTorrent download, first note the file's (SHA-1 or ed2k) hash. This hash can be seen if while in the transfers screen or downloads window you pass the mouse over the download and in the pop-up window that comes up, noting the hash value(s). Quit Shareaza and move the download from the incomplete to the completed files folder and restart. You can throw away the small sd file that accompanies the download. Restart Shareaza. In the shareaza library your download should appear in the completed files folder (the 'downloads' folder). Note the file's hash -- it should match that appropriate hash which you had earlier recorded. If it doesn't match the file is quite possibly corrupt.
