V2.5.0.0 media player issues

Postby deathfired » 18 Nov 2009 03:01

I noticed the media player no longer tries to play incomplete files. It worked on 1 file and after that it refuses to do any others. Was this feature removed from the media player or is this a bug of some kind? I'd very much like to be able to view incomplete videos to make sure they're really what I'm downloading.

The PTB decided to do away with the good old media player for what I hear a variety of reasons that go from is was an old 32k build, the code was not available but was being reused as a DLL with code worked around it and so on. Yes the media player they now have is right now of inferior quality in many terms and sadly it will take quite some time for them to bring it up up to par if ever to the good O'l media player with alll the features, great visualizations and UI the old one used to have. There is absolutely no solution to this whatsoever other than to try to download a third party media player that at least partly resembles what the old internal media player did, the only one I have been able to find is KMPLAYER. And the preview file option is not working that great either with quite a few files anyway. They will probably recommend you as they have all users that have upgraded to 2.5 to move to the Debug builds. Whether you do it or not is entirely up to you. The Builds could end up solving things and also making things worse (for the end user anyway) as they are well test programs of the application (It does help them though despite whatever damages it may or may not cause to your machine, files etc as it gives them a report to try to fix the problems). I think that they launched what they thought what they thought was a product ready to be released as a finalized product and that people would not notice the downgraded media player among other things but they did so now their only alternative is in fact to place in their main website for people that have upgraded to move to Debug builds and for those that haven't to keep using 2.4 up till a more stable platform is truly built.

Last I looked previews were done by separate preview plugins that take the partial file and use it to create a preview file that Shareaza then forwards to whatever media player you have told it to use for previws. I don't know if this was changed in 2.5, but I see no reason why it would have been. So the preview plugin is either incompatible with the partial files you tried to preview or with the new media player. Try using some other media player for viewing the previews and see if that helps. That should tell where the problem is.

Realistically the problem is either in the media player, the preview plugin (or whatever makes the preview), or with the files. Try using another media player. Try some other files. Try using an external media player to directly preview the files that fail to preview. Many media players actually tolerate some corruption in the file being played and can play a copy of the partial file if you give it the right extension. I think VLC can do this even with the .partial extension. Also Shareaza can't actually preview all video containers the media player can play. So check that the files have extensions supported by preview.

You are mumling and claiming. Have you ever tried to be positive? Or are you just try to say everywhere that Shareaza is not worth to use? If it is not why you just don't leave this forum and go the hell or whereever you want? The more far away the better?

You still haven't even tried if problem you indicated has been solved in Debug Build, but you keep saying they are problems. The main problem is troll in your head gigling you to stupid useless talking about nothing. Through away your own troll from your brain before next posting.

This is indeed a bug. Right mouse clicking on an incomplete file and selecting "Preview file" only works once then it stops working until you restart Shareaza. However double clicking on an incomplete file works every time. I was unaware that double clicking did the same thing lol. It might be a good idea to fix the right mouse click option or remove it all together.
