SEVERE BUG IN R8848

Postby blackflag100 » 08 Dec 2010 18:50

To get rid of the selection in the download pane, I clicked a file more or less at random, and then control-clicked the same file to deselect it.

I've done this several times with various versions of Shareaza, including r8848, without anything abnormal happening.

Until now.

This time, it popped up some thing saying something about generating a preview or something. Since I did not tell it to do anything of the sort and the unexpected, unwanted popup had a "cancel" button, I clicked that. Subsequently, the file was still selected in the download tab, so I control-clicked it again to deselect it.

The entire Shareaza window simply disappeared, replaced by a weird little grey box only a few pixels high and about as wide as a typical desktop icon with a little green progress meter inside. Then that also disappeared. The task manager showed no Shareaza task running.

I did not tell Shareaza to close. I had searches and downloads in progress.

This is clearly not only an incorrect response to control-clicking a download to deselect it, but a SEVERELY incorrect response.

As such, I must insist that it NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

Applications that I am using are to remain open until >>>I<<< choose to exit them. Until that time they are to remain on my desktop at my beck and call, and when I give them instructions they are to obey them with no sass, lip, quibbling, or backtalk, nor significant delay. Furthermore, they are to obey them to the letter and in a consistent and predictable way. In particular, if I control click a selected item they are to deselect that item 100% of the time. They are not to deselect it 98% of the time, generate a preview of something 1% of the time, and behave as if I chose "exit" from the "file" menu 1% of the time; they are simply to deselect the item without attempting to second-guess me, make up their own minds what I *really* wanted, or otherwise get creative. I do not install software so that it can do my thinking for me or otherwise behave as if it has a mind of its own. I install software so that I can have a perfectly obedient and predictable tool at my disposal.

Have I made myself clear?

And now it won't start again. It stops at "Starting database" and a progress indication of less than 10% complete, and sits there using 100% CPU.

What the hell did you people do to it? It was working fine until your BRILLIANT "let's make it do random weird things 1% of the time when someone control-clicks a file" thing did whatever the hell it did.

Now how the hell do I make the damn thing work again? And DON'T tell me to uninstall and reinstall it. I want to know an exact file, registry key, or whatever to tweak and exactly how to tweak it to undo this and have things back the way they were 15 minutes ago, and I want to know it yesterday! This nonsense has already wasted enough of my afternoon. I refuse to spend the rest of it and half the evening reinstalling stuff just because one of you couldn't manage to get a simple list control's response to control-clicks right!

In first post you describes Shareaza crash (small windows with progress bar labeled "Please Wait...") but no crash-log was generated for unknown reason. So we now know that Shareaza sometimes crashes during download preview process but we still don't know why exactly.

In second post Shareaza tries to recover after previous crash: during "Starting Database" step it clears leftover deleted files (for example download previews 8-) ) and initializes SQLite database primarily used for thumbnail storing. Deleted files enumerated in "HKCU\Software\Shareaza\Shareaza\Delete" registry key, download previews located in "...\Shareaza\Incomplete" folder. Database is a "...\Shareaza\Data\Shareaza.db3" file in your profile.

Yeah, I got it to start again eventually by quitting and restarting it, but why the HELL is control-clicking on files not simply and consistently toggling the selected-or-not status of said files?!
