SourceForge.net Hosting

Postby kevogod » 13 Jun 2009 18:36

From now on, SourceForge.net will be hosting the site, forums, and wiki.

http://shareaza.sourceforge.net/ is the official site for Shareaza.

Right, but who would still believe this is the official home?

I was thinking of setting up a new subdomain on Technutopia, but this is good too.

I'll go and put pantheraproject.net into the Level 1 list now. No point in letting him
redirect everyone to Discordia.

People will accept this as the official home because news is already out about
the hijacking and people still remember the last time he did this.

Kinda curious, how did the pantheraproject get stolen? I mean, it was just about 2-3 weeks ago that it was fine, now that a told a friend of mine to go there... he informed me it was hj'ed again. How does this happen? I mean... I know how it happens, ie hacking into it that is how it could happen.

But did it happen this time because somone forgot to pay the PP domain name bill? Or what? NO biggie to me, I I think i ahve the latest version my self of 2.4 non beta version. But just was curious on how it got taken this time is all... since the news didnt say anything about this last month.

Lucky me I have SF as my first stop anyways.

*edit* Ok now I know how it happen, lol.. I was typing while the other was posting and I didnt read everything... well wasent able to... now I did.... *sigh* That really does suck.... really really does.

Who knows what pressures were brought to bear on Rhythm to do what he did? Money is one lure, of course, on the other hand I have a wife and kid and given a nasty choice... Discordia seems to be living up to its name and sowing plenty of discord. Perhaps it's time to find to summon the big guns like Lessig, Geist, Stallman while aggressively targeting non-controversial uses of P2P storage and downloading like OpenOffice.org to get more active in promoting Magnet Links and Shareaza.
Question? Could the Shareaza website and forums run from within Shareaza itself? Freenet clearly produced this kind of solution. Perhaps it is time to figure out a "million points of failure" strategy for the website, wiki, forums, and source code.

Dificoult to say if there was preasure on Rhythm. But for sure cannot be excluded he did it for money.
Strategy worth to consider. Make a future request and describe precisely, and if free open source code would be aviable.

Well, I'm glad sf.net is the organization that it is. I'm just confused as to what happened. I always typed shareaza.sf.net, but then I saw the notice today and tried to go to panthera* and saw my image I use when my hosts file blocks something. I was VERY confused...so I checked google cache and saw a forum post and the cache was FLOODED with my "blocked by hosts file" image. Nothing short of "incredible" is how I would describe it. I'd really like to hear more since I've been a follower of Shareaza for so many years and know how things have gone up until this point.

EDIT: oh yeah...the old domain was added either by spybot or mvps...not sure which one since I update with both frequently. Looks like one or both snagged it as a bad site just like when the original shareaza website went sour, which is good to know.
