Content Database

Postby tp2001a » 05 Oct 2012 16:56

I would like to gently suggest creating a new board on this forum called "Content Database" with subcategories such as: Software, Games, Music, Movies, Miscellaneous. In these sections people could publish magnet links to LEGAL (free) materials, something like: http://contentdb.emule-project.net/, http://featuredcontent.utorrent.com/, http://vodo.net/, or http://www.legittorrents.info/. Within a few months, there will be hundreds of releases, Shareaza will gain a lots of new users. Look at this link: http://contentdb.emule-project.net/search.php?rel_id=164263&sort=date&direction=desc&cat=all - I have already posted here 69 valuable items, just give me a chance, please. What do you think about it?

The closest thing we have now is freebase but that is far from official and it looks like it is no longer possible to submit files. There was also another attempt - PeerWeb - which although it was slightly more successful, now appears to be dead. Besides, why would we want to make our own site when shareaza can already handle content from ALL of these existing sites? A site like that is a lot of work and requires a lot of moderation (which does not work well when crowd-sourced)

Moderation (?) - checking if free content is really free will take about 30s. It will not require much of work - just create 5 boards, something like this: http://emulefuture.de/viewforum.php?f=106; and fix adding magnet links on forum:

 BTW Shareaza has rich collections (full html, upgradeable) and it can be used as some sort of content database.

IE has seen much improvement over the past years, though. It starts to become more and more compatible with the rest of the world

Is it legal to create such forums at SF?

Certainly, as long as there are no illegal files posted there.

The problem is that as soon as we were to start such a forum section, some anti-P2P company would start posting illegal files in an attempt to discredit us. And they would likely succeed, as the law is only as good as the lawyers you can pay.

I have already realized that all links I posted here are useless because I didn't picked " Do not automatically parse URLs" option. Could you batch replace all links of user tp2001a: replace "&" with "&"? How to make collections in the current version of Shareaza?

Making collections is handwork. You will need to edit .xml-file manually with an texteditor.
Look here and here
The makingCollections-Plugin is yet open to create.
It is much easier making .torrents using Torrentwizard.

queuesclimber, you can create collections directly from within the Shareaza library. You can even select from several collection templates to get a change in the default look and feel of your collection. Any further modification have to be done by hand though...
