missing pics and vids

Toshiba sattlite running win8.1.
Shortly after installing and running Shareaza I noticed that under one folder, everything in that folder except all sub-folders was gone. All files, photos, and vidieos are gone and the folders show the "empty folder" message. I think I unshared the folder in question. Not sure about exactly how I did that. It seems that the files and pics are completely gone from the computer as I have searched extensively and also tried undelete programs. I now understand that I should not have continued to use the laptop so as not to overwrite the files if they were deleted but too late now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you pressed Delete button (or clicked Delete menu item) all files must be deleted to Recycle Bin because Shareaza uses a standard Windows way to handle the files.
