Encoding error

Postby bunghole » 11 Oct 2009 17:42

Hi guys!
I have a problem with receiving contantly the message "this torrent has encoding error" when i get to download various torrents. All is ok with downloads, howewer, after it's completion, shareaza will not seeding its.
In "advanced options" i cannot locate option "TorrentIgnoreErrors" - there is no such possibility.
What i need to do, to fix this issue?
Thank you in advance.

I haven't seen such an option nor such an message. If you are using 2.4.0.0 I would try 2.4.0.4 debug build at r8226 or higher. It works better with torrents IMHO.

I'm using the latest build, now it's 2.4.0.4 8226; the problem persisted at previous builds, i hope, it will gone with update.
The option about encoding errors is described along shareaza link, displayed on the error message and advised to change the value "false" to "true". I was confused, because there is no such option at all.
Thank you anyway.

hmmm in such a case please describe it more precise, perhaps you have found another bug. I thought it was fault torrent but perhaps I was wrong. Your description above is for me very general. To solve a problem description as detailed as possible is needed. Please have in mind we DO NOT discuss any illegal content downloading etc. see forum rules in case of doubts.

Also this is possible that either it was not implemented yet or it is as hidden as possibility to download only choosen files from torrent.

It's happens in 90% cases, when I tried to downloads any torrents, and, judging from forum messages, these torrents were ok.
What circumstances you have interested? I run windows 7, eng 32-bit version. Torrents mostly from largest russian trekker - torrents.ru
I think, with latest build some problem with torrents actually have gone, one of my torrents begin to seed (it does not work bofore), after update shareaza.

Please read this How to Report Bugs Effectively. There is described what can help and what you could do to help devs to find a solution. We ask to read this when we don't know precisely what should be reported.

Anyway, if newer debug works better I would suggest to make a clean install - it is described in wiki - uninstall Shareaza, delete directory etc. to remove any old trashes and install last debug build from the beginning and set all things again.

Please download "Shareaza Install Guide" by OldDeath to see step by step setting. Recommended always to read this - there you can find sth missed accidentally.

It's not a bug. It just the true - uTorrent (and several other BitTorent clients) produces torrents with encoding error, it uses non-unicode codepage for file names inside torrent. So for example torrent created on japanese windows with hiragana symbols in file name will be not saved properly on greek windows.

P.S. Use Shareaza Torrent Wizard, it produces right torrents.

So if this is a problem, why not communicate it with the uTorrent community as they are the BT standard bearers? If you want I can create post there and inform them, just need to know what to exactly say.

uTorrent is closed source application, we provide no support or bugfixing for such programs. Use Shareaza. :D

It's not helping them when everyone uses uTorrent to make torrents. This inadvertently harms Shareaza users, uTorrent doesn't suffer because of this. It's about market share, IE controlled Web standards by sheer volume and now that other browsers are gaining it isn't the defacto standard bearer anymore.

So at the end of the day, a Shareaza user is left not able to seed a torrent, because of a problem on uTorrents part ... that needs to be communicated.

You dont understand. uTorrent itself "suffer" at same level as Shareaza does. Using inproperly encoding torrent just cause invalid filenames saving on non-native for this torrent Windows. Its not prevent seeding.

But i cannot seed only after receive a "encoding message" in the beginning of downloading, otherwise all is ok. Interestengly, it seems to seed while i'm downloading the torrent, so others are able to download from me, but when i'm finished download - i see a "completed" status, but not a "seed" in shareaza. The actual problem is that i must seed in "torrents.ru", in order that being able to download. It's some sort of rating. You give - you get).

Dude, the user suffers not uTorrent ... not sure if it effects there users, but above is an example of a Shareaza user being effected. Anyways if you don't want to say anything it's alright I can say it just tell me what I can tell them to fix on there end.
