Recent difficulty in connecting to edonkey

About 2 weeks ago, I began having severe problems maintaining edonkey connections.
I used to be able to reach 200 Kbps and more.
Now, however, the download indicator in the status bar still reports in the area of 200 Kbps, but nothing is happening in the list of transfers -- all the downloads are either queued, pending, or searching.
Even when a miniscule downlad rate is reported for the individual downloads - 10,15,20 Kbps - the download rate in the status bar is always far more than the total of the individual downloads.
Looking at the System pane, in the Network tab, I see that eDonkey connections are being closed and lost or timed out, all the time.
1) Would this explain the overreporting in the status bar indicator?
2) How can I resolve this?

I should note that this problem first came up in Shareaza 2.4.0.0, and still persists after upgrading to 2.5.0.0 r8238.
I have a HighID on the edonkey server, in the Neighbours pane.
I am connected to the internet using a dedicated router.

If you get a high ID, you certainly pass the connection test?
Then my second question would be: Are your bandwidth settings matching the reality? (speedtest.net; test 3 times and pick out the highest value obtained for upload and for download. Make sure you don't mix up the units (can be changed under settings on the page: 8kilobits (kb) = 1kilobyte (KB))).

If the problem persists after you have double checked these two things, try to set the connectivity settings to less aggressive settings (advanced settings) as your router might have problems with the defaults.

BTW, it is normal that your download is higher than the actual file transfers you get from the network, as the total download also includes the data send to coordinate and synchronize the network(s) you are connected to.
