Not Responding

Postby hariseldon1 » 28 Jul 2010 04:39

Okay, upgraded to the latest version using the "clean install" procedure outlined in the How To Install Shareaza Manual, which is actually quite excellent.

But after moving and replacing the "Incomplete" folder, and then restarting Shareaza, it says:

Shareaza (Not Responding)

and another dialog box appears saying that Shareaza is "Converting Torrent" with two windows, neither of them indicating any action.

Because this second dialog box is in front of the main Shareaza window, I cannot perform any other action in Shareaza. I desperately don't want to lose my "Incomplete" folder which contains:
505 GB (292 on disk) in 1522 files.

Is it using CPU and disk IO? You don't mention what you are upgrading from, but in some cases it is necessary to convert old partials to newer format on start and if your incomplete folder is that big it will take orders of magnitude longer than the devs assumed. Which could mean Shareaza not being responsive for a long time. (It just means Shareaza is not handling its event loop because the main thread is already busy.)

It might make sense to move the partials to another folder and then copy them to the incompletes few hundred partial/sd pairs at a time. You can see what (if any) files Shareaza has already converted by looking at last modified time. And you'd have a back-up of at least some of the files.

IIRC, the way BitTorrent partials are handled was changed from having a single partial for the torrent to having a partial for each file in the torrent. And yes, you are almost certainly correct about the torrent being the culprit. I am not certain that either what I suggested or what OD suggested works that well for a torrent conversion. It might be easiest to move all the partials of the problem torrent elsewhere, see if Shareaza can handle other partials and starts working and then try to recover the torrent later.
