Incorrect folder for completed torrents

Postby longwalk » 02 Dec 2010 23:23

Recently moved to a Windows 7 box, and installed the newest version of Shareaza (after running the 4.0 version forever), so still trying to figure out things and work out the bugs.

One, extremely annoying, problem that I'm running into, is the fact that my completed torrents are being stored under Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Shareaza\Torrents folder, rather to the dedicated hard drive & folder that I have designated for Completed files.

Needless to say, I couldn't figure out where my files were, and my C: drive was filling up fast.

I've gone through all the settings, and the only one that seemed promising, was "Store Collections Here", under the Library options. I switched it to my S:\Shareaza\Complete folder, but, still, no go.

I haven't started digging around in the registry yet, because I assume I must be missing something.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Any version of Shareaza that has a higher version number than 2.x is a fake. Most of them contain malicious code, such as ad-, spy- or malware. This includes especially all installers downloaded from the domain shareaza.com, which was once ours but has since been taken over by enemies of our project.

Sorry, I mistyped. I'm currently using the 2.5.3 release (downloaded from here). When I mentioned the 4.0 version, I meant the 2.4 version.

The perils of posting a question when not right in front of the system with the problem. :-)

However, the problem is ongoing.

I did find another place where the Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Shareaza\Torrents folder shows up. It's under the Torrent tab on the Transfers window. I changed it there, but, at this point, no new torrents have completed to verify if this was the problem.

Thanks for any assistance.

No problem... It's only that we had a lot of trouble with fake versions of our Software and people believing them to be valid ones in the past and we're a bit jumpy when someone names them, as they are really harmful (adware/spyware) and some of them prevent Shareaza from functioning normally on a PC they have been installed once (even after they have been uninstalled).

BTW, I have to admit that I have never seen a Shareaza folder located under "[...]AppData\Roaming\Shareaza[...]". (I personally dislike the word "roaming" as it is usually related to costs that are way too high...)

As for the folder's location, have a look at the Shareaza settings. You can set the folder to store .torrent files in there. As for the torrents themselves, have a look at your download window: There should be one group for torrents. Within the properties of that group (use the context menu on the group title), you can set the folder where these files are stored (IIRC).

It would appear that the folder setting, found under the properties for the Bittorrent transfers tab, was the culprit.

As raspopov mentioned, the "Bittorrent downloads" box was checked, however, "mistakenly" or not, unless that box is checked the torrents are not displayed in the Bittorrents transfers group, even thoug the .torrent extension is in place.

I'm currently running the latest debug release, which corrected the Remote Control problem, and am have very good luck with it, thus far.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

*SIGH* :|

Initially BitTorrent group was a group for .torrent-files to place them to "completed torrents" folder, not for torrent-driven downloads. That why it has ".torrent" in extension filters list.

Download assigned to corresponding group at download start only, its not a "switch".
