Download versus upload ratio

Postby omgih » 26 May 2011 22:57

Why is Shareaza download speed compared to upload speed between 1:10 or 1:100 about 90% of the time?
This is unfair to users with ISP who count both.
About 1:1 seems reasonable.
Are there any settings that can be configured to make these speeds more equal?

Well, the most important thing that can be done is making sure your Shareaza has optimal connectivity. Could you plz tell us the results of your connection test (available from the "Help" menu)?

Results
TCP: The TCP connection has been accepted by your computer and the request has been answered. This means that other clients from the networks can properly connect to you.
UDP: An answer has been received from your client! This means that Shareaza is able to receive UDP packets from the network.
Congratulations, everything seems to be fine and Shareaza should work properly.

OK, that sounds promising. Could you tell me to how many and what kind of neighbours you are connected to? (They can be seen in the neighbours window. You might have to switch to power mode (view menu) to be able to access this window.)

Hi, Did you mean network tab?
1 EDonkey
2 Gnutella 1 ultrapeers
and many Gnutella 2 peers (currently 6 but can grow up to 25-30)

OK, so obviously your Shareaza tries to run in Hub mode but doesn't manage it. Go to the Gnutella2 settings and set the used network mode from Optimal to Leaf. This should increase your downloading performance (and in case you have any, it should also reduce Internet browsing problems while using Shareaza).

Well, how many downloads are you actually trying to download? And could you tell me how many of them are having sources within the G2 or gnutalla networks? Because if your downloads don't have sources within those networks, they're slow by nature...
