can't get it to work-well, just barely!!!!!

The last few months my Shareaza has barely been working. I had upgraded to
2.5.5.0 but found that if my Windows Automatic Update rebooted my machine
while Shareaza was running, all info on current searches was lost. In the
meantime, I had to reformat and re-install all of my software and I lost
all Shareaza info in the process. When I re-installed my software I used
2.5.3.0, as I had never had a problem with that. Now, when I run a
connection test it comes back in less than a second with "Congratulations,
everything seems to be fine and Shareaza should work properly. " But I am
trying to search for things that I had previously searched and found, only
almost NOTHING is showing up. On the one file that I did find, I set it to
"download now" about 2 weeks ago and even though it says there are 22
sources (sometimes more) it is only at 7% and has been at that for over a
week. I have tried to pause and resume, but it only says "pending" or
"searching," I have not seen anything downloading in the last week. A few
months ago, i was downloading 3-5 files every day and finding tons of hits
when I did searches. I do have a router, but the machine I am using
Shareaza on is hardwired to my cable modem. I have read and re-read all
that crap about ports, etc., but still have no idea what that means. I
have everything set on max for both downloads and uploads and don't know
what else to do. Any ideas?

OK, lets try to sort this out. Could you first tell me what OS you are operating on and which networks you're successfully connected to?

I've also had some issues with recent versions of Shareaza and Windows reboots, although in my case it just resets the library, so that I have to add all the folders again and rebuild the library. Are others having such issues?


As for the problem, try installing the latest version and have it reset host cache. Might help... or not. Worth trying anyway.

And disable automatic Windows update, switch to it checking updates but not installing automatically. Having to install the updates manually is a nuisance but being able to schedule the reboots yourself is well worth it. I am wishing Microsoft will eventually figure out a way to auto-install updates that do not require a reboot and let the user choose the time for reboot updates.

I'm sorry, I have no idea if this will reach you, as I don't understand how these forums work. I hope you get this, though. I am using Window 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a Dell 3.4GHz i7 system with 12G of RAM. My uploads work great, but I can barely download. I have a lot of files on my download list and have all my settings at maximum, but I look at my transfers page and I have 1 file currently downloading @ 906 B/s, while my uploads are running about 50 KB/s. I have dozens of files that show 10-30 sources and yet they are not downloading. I have been using Shareaza for years and it runs 24/7. I used to wake up every day and find between 3 and 10 (sometimes more) files completed. I haven't gotten a file completed in months now.
I am connected to Gnutella 1 & 2 and edonkey. The connection test says everything's fine. O don't know what to do. I do not understand all of the different settings available, so I've just pretty much set everything on Maximum—but I've always done that and I've downloaded hundreds of files (literally!) Now, almost nothing! Can you help??

Well, you try using Shareaza Settings/Advanced and using the options to returns settings related to downloads that you do not understand to the defaults. That should tell if there is a problem there.

I have tried setting everything to defaults and it makes no difference. I have tried all the suggestions I've found here. I have one particular file that I'm dying to complete but it's sat at 76.4% for over 2 months. There are always at least 20 clients online with it (sometimes up to 40!) and sometimes it says it's downloading (never more than 10 b/s (yes, that's bits, NOT kb) but the total % NEVER CHANGES.

Not related: In my frustration, I tried using Filehunter, (which was awesome!) and successfully downloaded over 100 files (mostly music) in three days, but it won't work anymore-pumpa.exe stops working. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling that (as I have numerous times with Shareaza) but it doesn't seem to help. Is this just punishment for downloading????????

The normal reason for a file with lots of sources not to download is that none of the sources has the complete file. When that happens everyone ends up having the exact same file fragments and nobody has any parts that everyone else doesn't already have. What happens more specifically is that Shareaza occasionally connects to the sources and asks if they have any new parts you do not already have (the slow download part you see) then on finding the source has nothing you do not already have (or has queue full or too long) disconnects to try again later.

This is actually pretty common since many people only connect occasionally or unshare or delete files after they are done with them.

No idea if this is related to your problem obviously, but it is pretty common.
