downloading speed / rate

Postby bobo69 » 01 Sep 2009 16:22

Hi all,

When i first start Shareaza, it resumes my downloads with an acceptable speed. After some time, most of the downloads turn into pending / searching status and the ones that are still downladed makes a total of 6-7 KB. If i pause them all and resume, some are starting to be dowloaded again with relatively higher speeds. If i shut Shareaza down and restart, it is faster again but it slows down soon.

My other problem is foxy servers. It picks them up within few restarts that i have to reinstall.

Although Shareaza claims that it is the fastest p2p, i am getting much better downloading results with the p2ps.

BTW, i am definately sure that the files i am triying to download are available most of the time that it can not be the problem.

What do you think is the problem.

Do you pass the connection test? (Help>>Connection test...) If you don't, it's clear that you will get slower connections...

A second tip I can give you is to add "Foxy" to the user agent filter (Settings>>Uploads), which should remove the foxy hosts faster from your cache. Also you don't need to uninstall Shareaza if that problem appears. Clearing the host cache should also solve it.

You might also want to try out one of our v2.4.1.0 RC builds you can find here (for better performance): http://shareaza.sourceforge.net/?id=debug

Well... do you have several computers running Shareaza sharing the same interent access? This could cause the problem you mentionned. Also, most routers/modems require the computer to which data is forwarded to have a static IP address. You can set up such a static IP address for your computer by editing the properties of your LAN (local area network) connection. If you need more information on how to do it, check out my install guide and/or ask me.

Only one computer is running Shareaza. I have not tried the Static IP. I will try it. Thanks again.

I set the static IP and port forwarding. Also installed the TCPIP.SYS patch. Now passes connection test.

But i made a big mistake.

I also installed the new version you have mentioned and it resetted my download progresses to 0. I tried to revert it by uninstalling and reinstalling the 2.4.0 version and know it does not recognise my old incomplete downloads.

Is there any solution to this?

I promise! This will be my last question.

We are here to answer question, so you can ask as many as needed.

What version have you used before? If you would let us know which perhaps we could warn you agains such a threat before installing a new one.

Try to look if there are files in incomplete forlder, they should be your old downloads. If they are there then you could try to get them back I think, untill you will delete them or they has been damaged hardly.

I was using 2.4.0 and then installed 2.4.0.4_Win32_Release_r8151_2009-08-28. As it resetted the progresses, i uninstalled it and reinstalled 2.4.0 again.

My old downloads are still intact in the old incomplete folder. I copied them in to new incomplete folder hoping Shareaza will pick them up automatically. But it did not.

I am not sure i f this can be the case but, i am suspecting this.

The first time i installed Shareaza i had just typed in something as username. Everytime i was reinstalling i was i was not removing the old logs that i did not need to enter an username and re-set alll these settings.. In the last time, i let Shareaza remove old log and enter a correct username. It may be that Shareaza do not resume old download assuming that they belong to another user. I hope this is not true as i can not remember that silly username.

BTW;
Although, it can not resume my old download, Shareaza now runs much better thanks to old_death

How many downloads are you talking about? If it's a small number of downloads, I can help you, but it is a manual way of proceeding, so more than 20 downloads is just too much of work...

If you still have the old incomplete files, then you can add these downloads by adding their hash sums in a magnet link. Example:

You incomplete file is named: "ed2k_hn4875n104ndfh670d34k0231c219753.partial"
Now extract the hash code and insert it into a magnet link: magnet:?xt=urn:ed2khash:hn4875n104ndfh670d34k0231c219753
This link shall be posted into the search window of Shareaza. After searching for it, Shareaza asks whether you want to download the file. >>"Yes"

Repeat this with all files. Remember that sha1 hashed need "sha1" instead of "ed2khash". You won't be able to recover torrents in an efficient way like this. To recover them, just click on the .torrent files again (Shareaza saves them in a specific folder; check your settings to detect its location).

You will need to wait until each file has at least downloaded a small bit from the connected networks before doing the next step. Each file that has got sources and transferred a small piece of data at least should have got the complete hashsets. Now you can merge the download via the advanced download editing dialog with an existing file on your HDD. Select the right partial file for each download and most of the data you downloaded before is imported (but only the data that has been verified before your loss of downloads)

This may sound difficult... trust me, it is not. It only takes long if you have too much files to recover. it depends on you how much time you'd like to invest ;)

Greetings,
Old

0,1% should be enough. If it's not enough, Shareaza will throw out an error message anyways telling it could not verify the merged content because the needed hash sets are not available ATM.

BTW, it is more efficient if you choose 'download file' on the dialog instead of 'search for file', as this gets faster better results.
